Breaking News- Wicomico County Council Denies Rick Pollitt's New Jobs

Sharee Sample Hughes entered a motion for Rick Pollitt's introduction of several new staff members, including a promotion for Jim Finneran and the County Council did NOT second the motion . Therefore the motion dies and the new positions are history. We want to tip our hats to the Wicomico County Council for being fiscally responsible.

  1. Thank you Wicomico County Council for putting the brakes on this!

WWWAAAAHHHH - daddy took the T-Bird away!

  7. Mr. Pollitt:

It's time for you to join that "Move On" group like Ireton has.

  8. Boy, they will have something to talk about at those cocktail parties at the Maryland Counties meeting in Ocean City later this week.

Funny how all the counties that are strapped for money can afford to meet there in the middle of the summer. Go figure.

  9. At last --- some good news!

  10. The council made us proud today. They not only said NO to Pollitt on the expansion of his office but they also said NO to him when he substituted the retiree from the County for another gov't job. I am convinced he knows no better because he is nothing more than a bureaucrat. What a huge disappointment for Wicomico County!

  11. Makes me wonder why we need the executive form of government now. Need a referendum to reverse the other referendum.

  12. Thank you Wicomico County Council for being responsible.

  13. Council, you did heed the words of your constituents. THANK YOU! I would not, however, call Ms. Sample-Hughes "stupid." According to procedure, someone has to introduce a motion when it's requested, and then wait for a second. The Council followed procedure. As the only Democrat on the Council, she would be the one expected to make the motion.

  14. I am also very proud that the council saw thru this madness of Pollitt's. My opinion is, if he can't do his job he should resign and let someone in that can. He is a pathetic example of a leader anyway. Next the council should delete his friend Finneran's position cause I really don't even know what he does for those bucks he's getting!!!

  15. Another petty power play by Council.

Pollitt was within his budget. Council has no business deciding who nor how many staff are in his office.

  16. @1246pm
you nake a valid point. however, its not this one thing she has done to bring me to "stupid". she has done a few things that just plain lack common sense and/or any grasp of detail.

  17. they? stupid? for spending LESS money? what world do u live in 12:46? you must live with Politt in dream land. does the word RECESSION/DEPRESSION mean anything?

  18. 12:46 I assume you're talking about Pollitt and Sample Hughes, and I agree completely.

  19. Rick has received some excellent advice from some of the smartest and most rational people in the County, yet he continues to do his own thing or is listening to the likes of his re-election committee - which was filled with rabid,die-hard dems who are out of touch with the majority of the citizens.

He has been told time and time again about Fineran but will keep him until he is vested in the retirement plan for the county. Just wait and see...

Rick's misplaced loyalties are hurting the county yet he thinks he is being honorable. Blunder after blunder makes you wonder if Fineran is his advisor - LOL!!!

IT HAS BEEN FIVE YEARS! Rick, you've got to stop talking about "the transition". That should have been over at the end of year one - this is year FIVE. Give us a break!!!

You are sadly mistaken if you think going to the people will get you what you want. The "people" don't support your crazy ideas any more than the council. Don't know who you listen to - but they continue to give you bad information and advice.

Rick is not the right man for the job. Sad to see, but now so evident.

  20. 3:00 I couldn't have said it better!! It is so passed time for the executive form of government to have been working very well. But it takes leadership and unfortunately, Mr. Pollitt isn't the leader that he professes to be. I am tired of hearing about the NEW form of government. Five years later without any substantial successes is example enough to know that Mr. Pollitt isn't the man for the job. Our only hope is that he will find another job and leave before his term is up. He cries to The Daily Times, an example was his email he sent this past week, and the article they wrote about his office fell flat. It's time for a Recall.

  21. Did you hear "Slick RicK" on WICO this AM - fibbing to Bill Reddish about what we had in mind when we changed to the elected county administrator to replace Ted Shea -- who still remained on the payroll until he got a special retirement package this summer?

Reddish did not contest anything Pollitt said even though it was an obvious scam of the public. He jumps all over everyone but Pollitt and Fineran when they are on his show. What gives?

  22. Thank you council members (well, except the one)! You will see the benefit of your action in the actions of the voters.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 1:11 You must Ricky or one of his cronies to make a comment like that. The council represents the people and so does Ricky(only he forgets that part) so they have every right to have a say in what he proposes to do!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yahoo Thats why I voted for the new council members last year! Thank you for listening.

    ReplyDelete
  25. good job council i see you do have coconuts after all.now the next step is a motion by the council to remove Slick Rick from his dutys.we don't need this form of government, u know what he did when he was the one man show in Fruitland. that was damn near bankrupt u see what been done since he came to the county, spend spend spend.he doesn't give a hoot he should take better care of his employees.we employees have should stick togather and unite(demand pay raises).it's been so long since our last raise we should do like the employees from Verizon. whats the county going to do fire their employees.i don't think so they have to go thru too much red tape to get rid of you.

  26. The public can see exactly what is going on. You know, the public that voted this form of government in. Your not fooling anyone Council.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 4:58PM Please explain.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 1:11 if Rick was within his budget, his budget should be cut some more next year. Nothing excuses this type wasteful spending.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Its all because of the revenue cap.It is to blame.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Pollitt had gall to even propose this to begin with. He can't manage an ice cream truck. Has no business in the job at all. Has ZERO accomplishments in five years. Let others do the job while collecting a salary and laying off people below him while growing his group of jesters and yes people. GREAT JOB COUNCIL (except) STUPID!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thank you Council for voting this down!! Citizens have had enough of Rick & his cronnies.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Had we had a Council this responsible before, we would not even have a County Executive form, of government.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thank you VOICE, btw, where have you been since your fiasco came to fruition?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dick Pollitt is a terrible Executive. He needs to resign or be removed IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why can't the city of Sal. be like that???
    Scratching my head...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Can't believe what I just read in the Daily Times. Pollitt is now accusing the council of being "back to play ing politics." He has lost it and is just plain acting crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Pollitt sounds worse than a 2 year old whining child. It is a sad situation that exists in our county today.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Pollitt is honest. That's for sure. The public knows all about you Council. It's just a matter of time.

    ReplyDelete
  39. We do NOT need the executive form of government for Wicomico County. We need to vote about it once again.

  40. I think the council did a find job, ppl have lost the property tax credit, so ricky gets more money via property tax, ricky wants his employees to continue to take furloughs, he has done nothing for scaling back county used vehicles and you need to ask old ricky about some new furniture he purchased just a couple of years ago for the exc. office more importantly ask about the cost, (but this just may be rumor)

    Thank you county council

    ReplyDelete
  41. Good Job Council, Rick still has his employees on furloughs, He has done nothing for the scaling back of county owned vehicles, persons have lost property tax credits and so they are paying a higher rate in property tax, Rick still claims he has no money, and (this may just be a rumor, but I think Rick purchased some new office furniture for the exec office a couple a years ago, no big deal, unless you see the price tag)
