  5. I know a business who is opening a new branch here on the shore. They called verizon to hook up phone service. Verizon tells them they are not taking any new orders until after December.

    Thanks strikers.

  8. I understand that the strike was because the Company can't pay 100% of their health insurance. Verizon is asking them to help with some of the payment. They said NO 100% or we strike. Also, they get paid unemployment when on strike... Thank you Government!!!!!

  9. Those among us who make considerably less than Verizon workers, myself included, know how ridiculous a strike in this economy is.The last thing anyone needed was for 45,000 more people to be on unemployment.I just hope that the Verizon management isn't vindictive.

I don't think so. They get 'strike money' from the union but nothing from the state.

    If I'm wrong, correct me.

There are probably a number of reasons for the anger. Many people have no job at all. Others just don't like verizon because your customer service SUCKS. After several calls to verizon people are upset and no one knows what's going on. We don't care about your issues anymore than you care about ours when we call to have a problem YOU created fixed. Sorry no sympathy for you today.

What makes you people think we don't know the issues? Because we don't agree with you?

If there are some issues that have not been reported in the news media, by all means fill us in.

I used to have benefits. The employer paid the premium. Then things got tough in the real world and he discontinued them. If I wanted health insurance I would have to find it and pay for it myself. Which I did.

Then things got worse and I no longer have a job. But I still have benefits through my wife's job.

No employer has to give any benefits. They don't have to provide health insurance, they don't have to provide vacations, sick pay, holiday pay or anything else over the wages they pay.

Most employers do offer benefits to attract workers and be competitive with other employers.

You are trying to keep what you have always had, we get that.

What we don't get is the way the economy is, high unemployment, and all the other factors that come into play is, why wouldn't you guys be willing to pay for your benefits?

I know there is more to it than that but this point sticks out like a sore thumb.

Some companies have had to reduce hours, reduce or eliminate benefits, ask for wage cuts, just to stay in business.

Your union comes across with the stance of now way. We are not giving up anything. We have fought for these bennies and we are going to keep them.

Take money out of the profits and pay our insurance, benefits or whatever.

Maybe they could in the short term. But in the long term? Who knows.

Meanwhile, they pass the costs onto us.

I'm beginning to ramble so I will stop here. Not sure if I made my point or not.

But you go ahead and enlighten us as to what issues we are missing.
