No - but they may have to join a union to protect their position from unscrupulous employers....that try to outsource (offshore) their work...and make them train the foreigners that will replace them.
11:12 Spoken right out of the union handbook. Look at every industry where unions had domination 20 years ago. Those are the jobs that left the country because the unions made them uncompetetive. The unions are now going after public jobs that the tax payers fund, but that is drying up too. Unions are like leeches, when they suck enough blood from the body the body dies. There should be a Federal right to wark law at the least and unions should be outlawed at the best.
@ Bob Pinto - If you are unhappy you are FREE to join a union and hope that they will negotiate a better working situation for you. Likewise, you should be FREE to negotiate your own working situation. And...you are FREE to either accept the working situation that your employer offers you or you are FREE to take another job where the working situation is more to your liking. The key word is FREE! No one should be force to join any group - union or otherwise - in the USA.
O'Malley basically told the State Employees Union that he would mandate that all employees give the Union some of their paycheck in return for the Union agreeing to provide political funding. That's what they call Collective Bargaining. Unfortunately, the money that the State Elected Officials and Unions collective bargain with belongs to the taxpayers who don't get a seat at the table.
Maryland elected officials used to take only from the private sector. Now they are also stealing from their own employees. How long will it take the citizens there to wake up?
I retired from teaching about 15 years ago, but I remember that MSTA wanted to pass the stipulation that either we pay union dues or else an amount equivalent to the dues would be deducted from our pay. I don't think it passed then, but I believe it may have by now. I realize the argument of the union is that it brings about the employee benefits that the teachers want, so everyone should pay towards the cost incurred. I still do not believe in mandatory union membership. I did re-join (I had stopped membershsip for a time), however, because of a threat from a principal. The teachers' association will go to bat for its members.
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Unions had a purpose that has been largely usurped by government agencies. They are dinosaurs that serve no purpose now except to fund the Democrat party and to protect incompetent, lazy employees. If you are not happy with your lot with your current employer and you are worth a damn, move on to work for an employer who values your skills and work ethic and will provide you with the pay and benefits you (or more importantly) he/she thinks you're worth and will actually earn. If you're to frightened to move on or to take the risk of starting your own business, suck it up and do as you're told.
Of course not.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely not!
ReplyDeleteI've been forced to work in a union job before. I was told to stop working too hard or I would "face consequences"
Unions suck!

ReplyDeleteNo! Its a FREE country...Right?
ReplyDelete$4,700,000 to the Democratic Party.
ReplyDeleteDo you need to know anything else?
No; if they run across unscrupulous employers they can always get a job somewhere else.

Of course they shouldn't have to join a union.
ReplyDeleteWe can ALWAYS rely on the voluntary generosity of any company.
I love my 25 cent per hour payraises and endlessly generous medical insurance.

Unions funded by tax payers should be outlawed for conflict of interest.
