Sixth Annual NAACP Back-To-School Rally Set For Thursday, Aug. 4

Wicomico County Branch #7028 of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will hold its annual Back-To-School Rally at Salisbury Middle School, 607 Morris St. in Salisbury, from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4.

Mark Thompson will be the master of ceremonies of the program, which includes entertainment by Wesley Temple United Methodist Church Youth Choir.

The NAACP is expecting approximately 300children from the public school system (prekindergarten through middle school) and their families to attend this rally. This event encourages each child to begin the school year ready to work and learn. In addition to the entertainment and a motivational speaker, each student will be given a bag of school supplies. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Wicomico County Branch of the NAACP wishes to thank Pepsi Bottling Venture of Salisbury for donating $500 each year for the past six years. Also, the organization is grateful to Food Lion for donating a $400 gift card for the past several years.

The NAACP is still soliciting monetary donations and/or contributions of school supplies (pencils, composition books, spiral notebooks, pens, hand sanitizer, etc.). Please bring your donations to Sojourner-Douglass College,408 Coles Circle, Suite D, Salisbury; you may also mail your contributions to PO Box 1047,Salisbury, MD 21802. Contibutions to this NAACP unit are not tax deductible; however, you may use your donation as an advertisement promotional deduction for your business.

  3. Sorry I will not be donating to this anymore. I'm sick of all the free handouts. Free lunches, free day care, free school supplies. Free free free. It's time people support the children they keep having and learn to earn it for themselves instead of having others pay for it.
