Invasive rodents nearly gone from areas where U.S. Department of Wildlife Services has focused efforts
"Today we are one step closer to saving Maryland's wetlands and economy from devastating losses cause by nutria," said Cardin in a written statement. "Other coastal states also will benefit enormously from nutria eradication techniques that have already saved countless acres of wetlands in Maryland and Louisiana. Our economy and marshlands cannot afford to sustain the damage caused by this incredibly invasive species."

Maybe they will do the same thing with the coyote. Lets hope so.
ReplyDeleteCoyotes don't effect the ecosystem like a nutria does.
ReplyDeletePersonally, there should be an open season all year long on Nutria. Encourage hunters and they'll be more than willing to help save the watershed. Plus, although it's not widely known, Nutria is apparently a very tasty species. Seen a couple things on Nutria on the Food network/travel channel. I'm not saying I'd personally eat it, but plenty of Shore folk eat Muskrat. Just sayin.
There was a time if you killed a nutria you could turn it in for money.
ReplyDeleteSenator Cardin,
ReplyDeleteThank you
First of all, Nutria are legal game all year long and have been for years.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, that has not eradicated the species, no matter how good eating they are.
Third, this makes people say "Thank you, Mr. Cardin, and vote for him again.
Fourth, this is a do-nothing move by an idiot who just wants to look good to get voted back in to his do-nothing job.
Fifth, If Senator Cardin wanted to help out, he would be ignoring this legislation and pushing his fellow Senators toward discussing issues such as JOBS, SMALLER GOVERNMENT, PRIVATE MARKET HELP, and similar measures, but he is not.
