Salisbury Ranks Among Most Affordable Towns in Maryland

WBAL has ranked Maryland’s Most Affordable Housing Towns. Salisbury ranked fourth behind Cumberland, Clinton, and Hagerstown.

  1. This is a joke. Did they take into account that 80% of the city is rentals. How about they stop ranking us with the western shore and there Federal paychecks and do it with a wage to rate ratio scale here on the shore and see how it goes.

  2. Go visit the other towns listed ...you wouldn't want to live in any of them.Clinton is a literal war zone and Cumberland and Hagerstown offer little in the way of employment.

Socieconomically Salisbury is in decline and "affordable Housing" is a symptom of that decline.

  3. I'm not surprised. Many people are trying to get out of Salisbury, creating a housing glut. The result: one can find houses very cheap. As 3:20 said, a majority of houses are rentals, many to students. Most of the houses that are being built within city limits are low-priced. If I were to attempt to sell my Salisbury house, I would probably have to sacrifice it.

  5. That's because Salisbury built a lot of crap, and now no one can unload it.

The slumlords bought up a lot of property, and while they gouge the renters, they drove down the property values of homeowners.

  6. Things are cheap because there aren't any local jobs that pay well. I guess it is affordable for those that move here with a lot of money in the bank. Otherwise, scan the job ads and just try to find a job paying over $10/hour. And let's not even talk about jobs that pay $30k or $40k.
