Today at 5:00 PM we will deliver yet another compelling story about the Wicomico Humane Society. I strongly encourage ALL of you to take the time to send us your story. Good or bad, we want the public to be aware of what YOU are experiencing.
Send all information to,

a question on another subject: why is there a lot of cars parked across the street from the old mall? There were so many there this morning....I don't see anything going on at the civic center. Just wondering if you knew anything about this Joe?
ReplyDeletePrking lot sweeping at Harvard-the employees had to be out of the lot for the sweeper truck. They are having a helicopter land there later this morning for employees to see.
ReplyDeleteThanks 9:42....Didn't know there were that many employees that worked there!
ReplyDeleteOmg, this is getting ridiculous! To put it out there. Yes, they put animals down, there are some people there that are not born leaders, they are partially funded by the county, state, they lease the building from the county.
ReplyDeletePeople are going to disagree with everything they do, no matter what. There have been some sad stories, but there are some great ones too. Are they the best, no, but they are truly an example of this county and the lack of community we have.
They only time people are involved is when something bad happens, and that is pathetic. Where was all of this chatter, when they were out trying to raise money?
I am not defending them, just tired of hearing all the bs. If you want to change it, then be proactive, b*tching and moaning does nothing for anyone.
anonymous 10:24, Your comment is truly amazing. I know, let's all act like democrats and believe everything and every one is perfect in this world.
ReplyDeleteLook, I completely understand almost every position at the HS is a thankless job, we get that. However, I have first hand information of former illegal activity, all of which the County Executive and HS are well aware of.
That being said, they are and should be within the radar screen at all times because they are capable of certain things that can easily be covered up and have been for many years.
My name is on this comment, (as it always is) and I stand behind everything I state here.
That being said, you can play on the heart strings of those sad stories but let me assure you of this. There are many more on the animals behalf whereas many of us have BEGGED the HS to come rescue animals and they simply did not. Some of which died because the HS claimed they didn't have the financial resources.
WE need a Director that would go out, (even on their own time) to rescue certain animals freezing in the cold and not a Director that will make up excuses as to why it cannot be done.
I know of at least two animals that died because of such excuses and they died a horrible death, not humanely put down.
I have received a ton of e-mail messages from people who have had horrible experiences with the Wicomico HS. Many of those stories have been forwarded to the County Executive and they pretty much requested I not forward them any more because there's nothing they can do to the HS, except cut their budget.
While there are no simple answers and while there are certainly stories from both sides, a more caring group of people who would refuse to take NO for an answer is what is needed.
If a child is allegedly in danger, social services must go in and even take the child until conditions improve. Animals should be given the same respect.
I believe if we stopped "b*tching" then the HS would remain unchecked and unaccountable.
If we didn't "b*tch" they'd still be breaking the law at the WWTP and so many other stoies Salisbury News has exposed over the years.
Joe, I agree whole heartily with you, but I am cranky today.
ReplyDeleteI know lugo is not the best, but who is? Is there a way to remove her, with the current policies in place? Will removing her really make the place better?
I love my animals, who all came from the humane society and I was shown nothing but respect while there. I know that situations are different for everyone.
I agree that there needs to be checks and balances for them, but how do we go about it, with the law/policies on our side? Are there people willing to take lugo's place immediately? If so, where or who are they?
I don't have any answers for all of this questions, but until i do, I will con't to support our humane society in any way I can.
anonymous 11:02, thank you for that kind reply.
ReplyDeleteOK, let's start with this. First of all, Linda is no longer "officially" the Director.
The County can do NOTHING to the HS, other than reducing their budget.
They are very conveniently taking their time in replacing the Director position.
Wicomico County found Mike Lewis, Salisbury found Barbara Duncan, the Zoo found Joel Hamilton, I'm sure the HS can find someone to replace Linda's old position. However, advertising on Craigs List isn't going to cut it.
I can guarantee you, IF the position was published nationally, someone very qualified would come in and do what Wicomico County wants and needs. Mind you, again, the County has no say in who they hire or fire.
The entire Board of Directors needs to go. While many of these people are fine upstanding people, we need a Board that will stop covering everything up and make the Director accountable.
The BIGGEST mistake the Board makes is their lack of making the Director raise, (through fundraisers) at least their own salary. This is done across the nation but in the City of Salisbury and Wicomico County, for some reason they don't push that issue.
To me, it's stupid. If YOU came to work for ME and you can't at least pull your own weight in sales, you're fired. You know it coming in and you'll know it going out.
Governemt agencies have screwed up America because they ignore accountability and performance and this is why we have so many crappy teachers who would rather CHEAT than do what is right.
So that's a start. I'll add, the BOARD should have caught the illegal activity going on in the past, yet they closed their eyes and swept it under the rug. The Board needs to go.
