Rep. West On Wasserman-Schultz: 'Vile, Unprofessional And Despicable'

A battle of two south Florida House members heated up Tuesday when Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz – the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee – attacked Republican Rep. Allen West, before West sent an e-mail saying the chairwoman is “vile, unprofessional and despicable.”

Wasserman Schultz said on the House floor, “The gentleman from Florida. who represents thousands of Medicare beneficiaries, as do I, is supportive of this plan that would increase costs for Medicare beneficiaries, unbelievable from a Member from South Florida, slashes Medicaid and critical investments essential to winning the future in favor of protecting tax breaks for Big Oil, millionaires, and companies who ship American jobs overseas.”

West responded with an e-mail that said, “Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige. You are the most vile, unprofessional ,and despicable member of the US House of Representatives. If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up. Focus on your own congressional district!”

  1. Well, agree with his politics or not, West has made even worse statements about his political foes. So by his own logic, West is "vile, unprofessional and despicable"

  2. I love it. He's great.

  3. I think she is Alan Grayson's sister. Are the voters of Florida happy with their representatives. I would like to hear even one thing that Allen West has said that was anything but the truth. He may be a little more direct than you would like but the truth hurts

  5. @2:01,

    Can you be anymore hilarious?

West lies and exagerations (just a few):

-"...I have a clearance that even the president of the United States cannot obtain"

    - "Currently we have some 40-45% of Americans who are not paying any taxes"

-"China owns about 29 percent of (the U.S.) debt.''

    -China owns the Panama Canal

Ha ha, some bastion of truth. Or maybe dude is just an idiot or atleast he one of those people who only reads the cliff notes.

  6. Given a choice between West and Wasserman it is no contest. We would vote for West and would be pround of it. We wouldn't vote for Wasserman if she was running against Obama or Harry Reid.

  7. Just reading the two statements, hers was actually the more proper "non-personal" personal attack than his was.

She did not refer to him by name. She did not direct it with personal language like "you." She attacked his record, not him.

Sorry. The score goes to her.

  8. Wasserman kinky hair Schultz has an issue that only her man can take care of.
    I wouldn't touch that with Obama's

  9. Wasserman spoke of West's policies, which is a far cry from the personal nature of his response. Another case of someone who can't defend his position taking it to a personal level. Typical of West and it seems alot of you are falling for it. And why would you post a comment like that of 3:48? I thought you weren't into personal attacks. There's nothing about that post that isn't itself vile, unprofessional, and despicable.

  10. 4:39 is right. Wasserman talked about West's positions on the issue, and he went after her personally. But I'd expect nothing less from a tea party congressman.

  12. 2:39 PM

    You are about 50% correct.

Currently we have some 40-45% of Americans who are not paying any taxes

The Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan organization that analyzes federal income tax issues, found the number was actually 36.3 percent based on tax year 2008 filed in 2009. The figure refers to federal income taxes.

"We found that out of the 142 million tax returns filed, roughly 51.6 million paid no income taxes or had negative income tax liability,'' said spokesperson Natasha Altamirano in an interview April 26, 2010. That equals 36.3 percent "who paid no income taxes or got additional money through refundable tax credits" and she added the 2008 numbers are actually the record high.

Altamirano said that it's important be precise in describing that group. "One of the problems is when people say 'half of everyone, one-third of everyone does not pay taxes' -- that's not true,'' she said, because it omits other types of taxes such as property and sales taxes that those people still pay. "This is just federal income tax. Unless they are saying 'federal income taxes' it's just not true.''

-"China owns about 29 percent of (the U.S.) debt

As of January 2011, foreigners owned $4.45 trillion of U.S. debt, or approximately 47% of the debt held by the public of $9.49 trillion and 32% of the total debt of $14.1 trillion.[37] The largest holders were the central banks of China, Japan, and the United Kingdom.[39] The share held by foreign governments has grown over time, rising from 25% of the public debt in 2007[40] and 13% in 1988.[41]

As of May 2011 the largest single holder of U.S. government debt was China, with 26 percent of all foreign-held U.S. Treasury securities.[42] China's holdings of government debt, as a percentage of all foreign-held government debt, have decreased a bit over the last year, but are up significantly since 2000 (when China held just 6 percent of all foreign-held U.S. Treasury securities).[43]

  13. I used to like Mr. West. I even thought he would make a good president.

I have since changed my mind about that, before I read this article. I don't trust him. He needs to be watched and studied more to determine if he is what he and others claim he is.

  14. Wasserman took a cheap shot and smeared a man after he got up and left and wasn't there to defend himself,A cowardly act and as West mentioned this wasn't the first time. Wasserman is a hysterical liberal just like Anthony Weiner and deserves to be drummed out of congress.

  15. How is commenting on his position of cutting medicare "smearing?" No way that is a cheap shot. If you stand the heat....

  16. Actually 2:39 is only 25% correct. Our "president" could not meet security clearance requirements for any sensitive government job, and people who know what is going on know that. He is one big lie and only obtained his "presidential" (which he is anything but) status through fraud and a media that should be held criminally negligent for not doing their jobs as watchdogs. This man would have been laughed off the stage if not for the cover-up perpetrated by the fawning media. Oh yeah-he's historic. He's Americas first muslim communist president.

    12:01 AM

He listed 4 things, two of which were true. That makes 50% to me.

How did you come up with 25%?

    ReplyDelete
  18. 6:30-The first three are true, unless you want to throw the third one out on a technicality (29% versus 26%). That was back in May-the number may be 29% by now. One truth in four was 25% when I went to school. The last one may be true or partially true also. I have no knowledge of who owns the Panama Canal, but I would be willing to guess that China has a piece of that pie too.

  19. 6:30 and 12:01, the point is that ALL the statments are incorrect quotes from West. The list was in response to 2:01's comment ( "I would like to hear even one thing that Allen West has said that was anything but the truth"). I provided 4 because all are either an outright lie, exagerration, or just plain false. So again, either the man is "vile and despicable" for being a liar, or at best he's "unprofessional" for spouting off before doing his homework. Either way, he's in no position to be throwing stones.

  20. 8:25 AM-The first three are true

No, the first one is wrong. Even if it wasn't, you would still be wrong. That would make it 75% true. You're a little backwards.

    8:25 AM

6:30 and 12:01, the point is that ALL the statments are incorrect quotes from West.

NO, they are not. Geesh. I don't know what is so hard to understand but I'm not going to go back and forth about this anymore.

Have a fine day, both of you. ( I think )
