Re-Districting Panel Releases Schedule for 3 Meetings

A panel on congressional redistricting in Maryland has scheduled the first of three of 12 hearings across the state.

The Governor's Redistricting Advisory Committee announced Wednesday that the first two will take place in western Maryland on July 23, a Saturday. The first will be at Hancock High School in Washington County at 11 a.m. The second will be at Hood College in Frederick at 2 p.m.

The third will take place at Prince George's Community College in Largo on July 25.

Lawmakers will gather in a special General Assembly session in October to redraw the boundaries of the state's eight congressional districts, based on the results of the 2010 census.

Redistricting for state legislative districts will be taken up in January during the regular 90-day session.

  1. Here we go again. We're going to have 12 hearings for what? The governor and the overwhelmingly-Democratic legislature have already decided how the redistricting is going to be done, but they have to have "hearings" just to say they have.
