O’Malley Expected to Announce Wicomico BOE Appointments Today

Yesterday Maryland governor Martin O’Malley announced the appointments of James D. Thornton and Ronald G. Browning to the Harford County Board of Education.  Today he is expected to announce his appointments for Wicomico County.

If so, O’Malley is expected to announce the re-appointment of Michelle Wright to another term and the appointment of Carolyn Elmore to replace Robin Holloway.  Mrs. Elmore is the widow of the late Del. Page Elmore (R-38A).

More news as this develops.

  1. Shame on the Republican Central Committee for endorsing Michelle Wright again. Bad move. No wonder the Republican Party is failing.

  2. Michelle Wright is an execellent choice! She was instrumental in having Lori Batts removed from Mardela.

  5. Of course Freddy wants her re-appointed. She does whatever he wants. She never confronts or does what is best for all. Only what Freddy wants. Shame on the Republican Party for endorsing.

Yes, about the removal of Mardela's principal, but she didn't lead the Board members to oppose that person's "transfer" to a supervisor's position at the central office. It was not a transfer (which the Supt. can do alone), it was a promotion which requires Board approval. The Board should have had the guts to say so and then should not have approved it.

  7. Carolyn Elmore a retired teacher will be no better than Wright or Dodd the other two Rino's who bow down to Fredrickson. It's not been that long ago that she held a fund raiser for Phil Tilghman when he ran for county council.

  8. Face it. Robin Holloway asked the tough questions and wasn't afraid to oppose Dr. Fredericksen. The vast majority of the time, she was speaking to six conformists who did as they were told. Even if Dr. Elmore has tons of courage and knowledge, the votes will still be 6-1. All of them should resign. If these six won't hold the Superintendent accountable, find six who will.

  9. The only area in which Page Elmore broke with his fellow conservatives was education. With his wife a schoolteacher, he supported the teacher's union throughout his 8 years.

In 2010 only two republicans voted for O'Malley's budget. Page was one of them and he voted that way to force the state to keep paying the county's share of teacher's pensions. On this issue, he was just as liberal as Norm Conway.

Unfortunately, putting a career teacher (read teacher's union) into this position will lead to the same sort of out-of-control spending that has gotten our counties into the trouble that they are in now.

Carolyn is a sweet lady, but you have to ask yourself why O'Malley liked her for this position...

  10. Carolyn is a sweet lady. Michelle is a sweet lady. The five men are sweet gentlemen. There isn't an independent thinker in the bunch.
