If the nearly two hundred people who showed up for tonight’s public hearing are any indication, Lower Shore voters don’t want ANY increase in the tolls on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. That was one message our elected officials heard loud and clear.
Delegate Mike McDermott (R-38B) whipped the crowd into near frenzy with his explanation as to why we don’t need a toll increase and why Shore citizens can’t afford one. Del. Norm Conway (D-38B) tried to thread the needle; sounding like he was opposed to the toll hike but leaving the door open for a hike to $5 per round trip. Citizens would have none of that, going so far as to boo Conway.
More to come in the morning. Have a great evening.
Conway is not for us anymore and must be voted out.
ReplyDeletewho cares about Shore Citizens it is not like they want to charge a toll to get in the Wal-Mart parking lot.
ReplyDeleteLet these outsiders coming in pay a hiked toll when they come here to spend their money on our shores. Five dollars is not going to hold them back they think nothing of paying the ferry toll.
7:55 PM You idiot! It has nothing to do with "outsiders." With a toll increase you will see everything go up to make up for the cost of doing business crossing the bridge. You may start to realize the hit in the pocket when your or a family becomes sick or injured and you have to make the daily trip to a specialty hospital in Baltimore. You better watch what you wish for. Moron!!
ReplyDeletethere are a lot of people- not just "outsiders" -that commute to work over the bridge that live, play, and raise their families here on the shore.
ReplyDelete7:55
ReplyDeletesome of the shore people have to work on the other side you idiot. There are no descent jobs, paying jobs on the shore. THey still love living on the shore but have not much choice but commute.
Idiot.
Perhaps the toll will keep the others off the shore so it can be left to true Shoremen and not come-heres who live here but not work here. People who come here and become slum lords or own properties that they run in the ground. After ravaging and stripping the area, they go back to the other side. Ten dollar toll may be in order.
ReplyDeleteMany seem to forget they'll be charging $50.00 for tractor trailers to come across the Brisge. The COST of goods on the Eastern Shore will be as expensive as sending good to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida!
ReplyDeleteDrywall, paint, you name it. It will ALL go up. So stop being IDIOTS in support of this increase. The Bridge has been paid for many years ago and the commitment to the taxpayers in Maryland was to open it up for FREE once it was in fact paid for.
It was your tax dollars that paid for it, it's paid for and now some Idiots think its still OK to raise prices.
I know, here's an idea for those Idiots who seem to be clueless. Why not let OweMaley charge you again for your vehicle after you've paid it off. You don't have a problem allowing him to make you pay another 4 or 5 years on it, DO YOU?
it is five dollars people most spend more than that for soda when it is on sale
ReplyDeleteit is amazing how butt hurt peoples priorities are here
I can see a small increase to $3 and then in five years, a jump to $5. But an $8 toll is ridiculous and if they charge trucks $50, that is terrible. No wonder nobody wants to do business in MD.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 9:19, sorry but you're a fool.
ReplyDeleteThat's $5.00 PER CAR!
Now, if 500,000+ people come to OC for the weekend and 300,000 cars, (as an example only) that's $1,500,000.00 LESS that they'll have to spend in OC.
Does that make too much sense to you yet?
Do you really think your soda crap will sell here?
That soda will now increase an additional $ .50 per 6 pack, times ALL of the people buying it.
As for the rest of you accepting ANY increase, the Bridge is PAID FOR! This is a BS tax by OweMalley.
I have never in my life seen so many ridiculous thinking people in my life.
Yes, I live in Delaware, (as one person commented). However, I own more property in MARYLAND and pay taxes in MARYLAND. So do me a favor, shut your mouth for once about that challenge because you really look and sound like a fool.
Also, look up my property and you'll see I'm less than 1 mile outside of Salisbury. Don't hate me just because I'm that much smarter than you.
Just another way Obama's party want to stick it to us... Conway is history and McDermott has got more stones and common sense than all of 'em put together...

I thought Del Conway was a "front person" for the Governor. Did it show during that meeting?
ReplyDelete9:53 PM
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you brought up the increase for big trucks. Most people don't even think about them.
Trucks are barely hanging on as it is with the cost of fuel and tolls going up.
As you said, this bridge, and toll roads are paid for. The money is to used for maintenance. How many millions did you say they made IN PROFIT AFTER OTHER COSTS WERE PAID FOR?
If it costs more to bring goods here, who do you think is going to pay for the increase? The ones who buy the goods.
I can't believe so many people are in FAVOR of the toll increase. "Long overdue, not as much as other tolls, etc."
Just stupid. People have been brainwashed by greedy trolls.
Some toll roadS are owned by foreign entities. The money doesn't even stay in this country after expenses.
Wake up people.
The people will still come to the beach no matter what they charge. Joe is right that is less money they will have to spend at the beach. A few dollars doesn't sound like much but multiply it by the number of people that go to OC. The people that it will hurt are those that HAVE to work across the bridge because there are no jobs available here. We are paying over 200 dollars a week in gas to commute. Our budge is stretch as tight as it can get right now and if they raise it others things will go up also.
ReplyDeleteThere is no rail system that comes from across the bay so everything is trucked in...EVERYTHING....remember all those things will be going up.
If you are lucky enough not to have to cross the bridge frequently you will still be effected by this when prices rise.
The news media is only covering this as a toll on people- what will hurt us more is the toll hikes on things like GROCERIES and other goods that are shipped over the bridge. In fact, this should be the main point, not the tourist impact.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Conway- you mean the guy who costs us the chance of having an elected school board? When did you think he ever had the eastern shore in his best interest?
Suck it up people , it will happen.
ReplyDeleteTime for change!
NO middle class!
Obamie , you the man!
How about this Joe, Since they love taxes and have money to pay for them, then tell them to give us their left over money they seem to have allot of... since they can pay for everything and seem to know whats best for me even tho i can't afford any more taxes, or levees or wtf ever else you wan to call it...
ReplyDeleteTake a tip from DE, raise the toll on weekends. Weekday trips are mostly working people and service providers. Weekends are recreation travelers for the most part. RT. 1 tolls are $2 on weekends and $1 during the week.
ReplyDeleteAll of you country fried maroons voted for Republicans and this is what you get.
ReplyDeleteIf you would have elected Kratovil I wouldn't have done this. If you wouldn't have elected McDermott and Otto, I would have left you alone.
Let me spell it out for you as I am currently up in Bab's office giving her and her g/f a brazilian, don't tell anyone but I am trying to get her to retire, anyhoo, I appointed the board that made this decision, I control them. They are my plantation puppets, and I am the slave master, just like all of you little stupid country redneck twits.
Make no mistake and let me be clear, (I learned those phrases from Obama, they sound SO Presidential, I get goosebumps, I am going to suck the Eastern Shore dry and send the chicken companies and farmers packing. I have made sure that the farmers that use trucks won't have a pot to take a leak in!! ha HA! Then after ALL of you are on food stamps I am going to bring your tax money back over here to the civilized side of the bay and distribute it to those most deserving of your money. We all know who that is don't we? As a matter of fact, by the time I am done with all you "conservative" voters, a tourist won't come within 500 mles of the S. house side of Maryland, and agriculture will be a quaint hobby practiced by a priviliedged few!
One more thing, to the Maryland Public Policy center, I can't have you smart light skinned academics gettin' uppity, so I am going to make you and your donors my baby momma.
Oh my, look at the time, I'm late to polish Cardins bald head with a rag before we hit the links, he's letting me caddy for him.
7:55 - your name Conway too?!
