Letter to the Editor – Posts About Humane Society Are Not True!

I would just like to know where I. Richardson got this information that you posted on your blog, because I know for a fact that most (if not all) is untrue.

First of all, the HS tried to keep all the files confidential about their friend but the HS was ordered by the court to give the information to that specific woman. Therefore it is not the HS fault, are they supposed to go against the courts?

Also, she was mistreating animals and vets agreed! How can you say they were healthy? Did you see them because I did and they were most definitely not healthy and I wish she got punished more for what she did.

Secondly, why bring up something that happened ten years ago? The HS has new people and new ways of caring for animals and do all they can to help them now. I know for a fact that they send as many animals as they can to rescues and have decreased their amounts of euthanasia.

They only euthanize if a dog is so mean they can't help it or if it is sick beyond help and it would be more humane to euthanize them then. Why should the animals suffer in cages if the more humane thing to do is euthanize them?

I for one think they need to "clean house" and get the people that are accusing the HS of these untrue things out instead of making up false accusations.

I know you probably will not post my email because it goes against your views but I would like to get a response from you on where you get the information you post on your blog. I have been reading it and continually I see things that don't add up.

I see what goes on at the HS and what you say in your blog does not match what they actually do there. If they upset you in someway that's fine, be mad at them, but don't make up stories to try and get people to think poorly of this shelter for just trying to save animals.

People have been threatening the workers, harassing them, and they could lose their jobs over the things you post. How is that fair to anyone of them? If you have a problem, talk to them so they can address the issue and hopefully fix it.

If it's to do with the animals and you see something they don't, if you tell them they might change it. But by posting these awful things and putting people in harms way just for your ego, no one wins here.

Everyone loses and you just look bad. I know this is very much not what you want to hear from someone reading your blog but I just would like a response on some of these issues that I brought up. Not an attacking email, just one verifying where you get your facts from.

(NAME WITHHELD @ Author’s Request)

We received this letter last week when we were asking for letters that supported the Wicomico County Humane Society as well as from those that questioned the Humane Society’s actions. We have just posted it because we did not have the author’s name and phone number until this afternoon. – Ed.

  1. GOOD GRIEF who cares you people are beating this dead dog like it is a day care or something
we all love our pets and animals in general but really.......this is the problem with non-profit agencies
they should be staffed at every level by well to do volunteers with private incomes.......say some REPUBLICANS with time on their hands
heading a non-profit should not be a professional wage
that is why so many fail so righteously pretending and having to adhere to a corporate ethic.....let the churches take over they lost the abortion and homeless battle perhaps some faith based free animal advocation might be good training grounds to actually do something effectual to the human animal

  2. I have nothing but good to say about the WCHS. We have an adopted dog from there to live with our aging Irish Wolfhound. For two weeks after the adoption they would call every few days to check on him. We have friends that have animals from there and the same is the case. We do what we can for the WCHS because do a great job with the resorces they have. John& Linda Riggin, Delmar.

  3. This statement is a boldface lie and yet another example of why I do not ever care to go to the Wicomico Humane Society again: "They only euthanize if a dog is so mean they can't help it or if it is sick beyond help and it would be more humane to euthanize them then."

On Sept. 17, 2007 a litter of puppies were discovered abandoned on Cross Road (near Mardela). It is a fact that the puppies were completely healthy and all euthanized by the Wicomico Humane Society. It is also a fact that the people who sought the help of the Humane Society were blatantly lied to a deceived.

So my question to you is, where do you get your facts?

  4. You said: "They only euthanize if a dog is so mean they can't help it or if it is sick beyond help and it would be more humane to euthanize them then. Why should the animals suffer in cages if the more humane thing to do is euthanize them?"

THIS STATEMENT IS ABSOLUTELY, UNEQUIVOCALLY, VERIFIABLY NOT TRUE!!!

I know FOR A FACT that they euthanize animals who have been at the shelter for too long without being adopted. Perfectly healthy, friendly, sweet, playful animals who would have made good pets. But, in part because of their breed, no one locally would adopt them. How much effort was made to find a home for them outside the area? ...or to find a rescue that would take them?

Also, you demand to know where information comes from and then ask that your name be withheld.

Why bring up something that happened ten years ago? Because it's indicative of the fact that it is a long-standing problem that continues to this day. The attitudes & actions that people have described start at and are supported by those at the top. And hasn't the "top dog" been in charge out there for more than ten years?

You said: "I for one think they need to "clean house" and get the people that are accusing the HS of these untrue things out instead of making up false accusations."

What? How do you know what they are saying is untrue? Do you work there? If you don't, how can you know & if you do, you have your own axe to grind in this case. And, who is "they" & how do you propose to "clean house?" It's called democracy, you know, "freedom of speech." Maybe you heard about it in elementary school. Mr. Albero's blog gives those who may otherwise not be heard the forum to speak, in this case, on behalf of helpless animals in this county.

How DARE those who have had bad experiences with the HS and staff give voice to their concerns! How DARE they hope for a change for the better for the animals!

I haven't seen an outpouring of support for the HS. Quite the opposite. If these allegations are without merit, why are there so many complaints and so few compliments? No crowd of people falling all over themselves to say good things about the HS.

Any suggestions an "outsider" may make to those at the HS will be met with contempt and scorn. They consider themselves (in the form of Lugo & Hudson) the undisputed experts in this area & will not abide any advice, suggestions or observations from anyone in the public. They are vindictive and mean-spirited and if you dare to criticize them, they will make things very difficult for you if it's within their power to do so.

  5. 6:20 you are an idiot. obviously you have no experience with non profit agencies. they must be run as a business in order to survive. I am not supporting the HS at all so don't go there.

  6. Who ever posted this letter doesnt have a clue. How dare they sit in judgement of this rescue person. The person they speak of has done nothing but good for home less animals for years. We can call each other names forever.Bottom line is none of it addresses the issue of help for the animals at this high kill shelter that has no desire to move forward with the rest of the world.I figure they have never heard of A NO KILL NATION which is working in shelters all over the country.Instead of killing the sick animals and injured are treated and then a home found.I guess this person also thinks we should kill people that are sick or disabled. And as for their story they better check their sources as nothing they said amounts to any more then a LIE!!!!If you care about the animals I would think you could find better use of your time. You also spoke of people losing jobs. In my humble opinion that sounds like a good thing

  7. This person is an idiot. No court order what the hell is she talking about. No vet said dogs were sick again with the lies.No animals removed. No charges tickets or fines.Whole story is nothing but a LIE. I really don't care. The issue at hand is trying to help the animals of this county.Should we kill the old the sick the disabled people in this world or should we treat the sick and let the seniors live out there golden years in peace. Animals shouldn't be subjected to anything less.Animals are not throw away things as this person seems to think.I know of dogs that have been put to sleep because they pee on the floor or because they bark one time to many .This person knows What i'm talking about.Or killed because they aren't as pretty as the rest.I think this person needs to check their facts before talking about a conspiracy between two people that she knows absolutely nothing about.Where do you get YOUR facts.

  8. On a positive note, the Humane Society had a beautiful pavilion constructed with donations received in the memory of Sam Vincent. It's a nice quiet place where people can go with an animal to see if they bond before they take them home. Thanks, Humane Society. We as Sam's family are thankful.

  9. I recently adopted a dog from the WCHS and they were nothing but friendly and professional. They seemed to sincerely care for the dog. I even wanted to adopt a second dog at the same time but they denied me for fear I would not be able to care for two puppies at the same time. If they did not care about the dogs and only cared about money why didn't they just let me pay the additional $150 for the other dog and just let me take both of them despite any risks? Because they truly do care. I am not saying they are perfect. No one is. But they are doing the best they can with the resources and finances they have. If anyone has complaints then do something about it. Sitting back and bashing the workers is doing nothing but causing problems. I thank them for what they have done for me and I plan to go back there if I ever want another animal.
