(CNN) -- My fellow Americans: In a matter of weeks you have become studied on the issues of budgets and deficits. You've also formed opinions on these issues, and these opinions are reflected in poll after poll. Isn't it strange that Congress has yet to listen?
Recently, I reviewed a poll completed in late May for the Pew Charitable Trust. They found that a majority of Americans believes the government is "generally helping the wrong people." This discontent stems in part from the perception that the government helps those who need it least -- the rich rather than the middle class or the working poor.
A majority of citizens, 54%, think their government helps the rich economically "a great deal." Much smaller percentages of the public say the same about "the poor, 16%; "the middle class," 7%; or "people like you." Anyone.
Because of a loophole, hedge fund managers are likely to pay a lower rate of taxes than their secretaries. Warren Buffett, one of the world's richest men, has spoken out about the injustice of the fact that his tax rate was less than the cleaning lady's. Both parties agree that reform of the tax code is necessary, but one thing should be clear: As it stands, the tax system disproportionately benefits the wealthiest Americans. Passing a debt deal that exclusively cuts programs that benefit middle- and lower-income Americans will only exacerbate this difference.

is it fair for the "state" to force the rich to pay for the poor? NO it is not. this should be done by their own choice and most of them do give.
ReplyDelete49% of americans don't pay ANY payroll taxes. is it fair that i have to give them my money? NO it is not fair. i give because i want to give; church and other charitable organizations and sometimes directly, i DON'T want the governemnt to TAKE from me to give to others. i want the government to get out of my life as much as possible.
they are supposed to defend us from enemies both foreign and domestic and maintain our infrastructure. nothing else. it has become bloated and out of control and now it's time to reign it back in before we become like greece. what is so very hard to understand about this. it's basic econ.101. aka common sense.
I didn't know where else to put this so I hope you will read this and repost. Earlier this week we posted here in a comment that we were welcoming patriots with CB radio's to come and broadcast and receive anonymously on Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. on channel 3. I was hoping that you could do a post on this include the following changes we've made. In light of the changes in the stock market rapidly unfolding and the fact that the financial condition of our nation continues to rapidly deteriorate, we are moving the CB radio correspondence date and time to this Saturday and 7:00 p.m. on channel 3. All patriots with a CB radio who wish to communicate anonymously are encouraged to join us. No real names or exact locations.
ReplyDeleteI wish the rational people would stand up. It's not about punishing the poor. Entitlement costs are killing the budget so therefore they have to be addressed.
ReplyDeleteFunny how know one is addressing what this article is talking about. Our unfair tax code. Hello? Is there any intelligent life out there?
