Democrats - With No Bill of Their Own - Point Accusing Finger at Republicans

WASHINGTON - Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chair of the Democratic National Committee, accused House Speaker John Boehner of “partisan politicking,” and she said if he doesn’t "compromise" with Democrats on a debt-ceiling deal, Republicans will “have no one to blame but themselves for the fallout.”

The Florida Democrat released the following statement Thursday after House Speaker John Boehner again postponed a vote on the Republicans' debt-ceiling bill.

Boehner lacked the votes to pass the bill, which does not cut spending enough to satisfy tea party conservatives. Democrats won't back the Republican bill, partly because it raises the debt limit in two stages.

  2. What would be the point of the Dems trying to introduce a bill of their own if the Republican majority would neither entertain it nor vote on it?

Oh - it would be called "grandstanding." Something the Republican minority of 3 years ago knew an awful lot about.

  3. "like" for 9:26.

I seem to recall Harry Reid having a bill to introduce (not saying it was a good one). And I seem to remember Pres. Obama working to structure a deal that would gain Repub. support so that they could create full blown legislation.

But overall it sounds to me like too many people on both sides in congress just don't have the fortitude to give it straight to the American people.

#1 Yes granny and the poor, your "entitlements" as structured, are not affordable over the long term.

#2 Yes Richie Rich, you'll have to cough up more dollars to help right the US fiscal ship. Don't worry, you were making money hand over fist even during the higher taxes of the Clinton years.

  4. Democrats never take responsibility for their actions. They haven't passed a budget in almost three years and they have full control of both houses. The only budget Obama outlined was voted down down 97-0 from his own party.

  5. The Tea Party is a force to be reckoned with, obviously. I cannot blame them for voting the way their constituents want them to, even if they are contributing to the impasse.

  6. 9:37...Why do some people continue to think SS is an entitlement?? Most people have paid into this fund for many years so they have retirement income that is theirs in the first place. The funds are gone because the program has been raided and drained, and now they want to target it.
