Brain Trauma Poses Heightened Risk For Veterans

Problems with traumatic brain injury can continue - even into old age. A new, large study shows that older veterans seem to be at greater risk for developing Alzheimer's disease or other dementia later in life - if they suffered brain injury in their youth. The research was reported at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference in France. The findings challenge the current view that only moderate or severe brain injuries predispose people to dementia. A neuropsychiatrist who used to work at Walter Reed Army Medical Center says that this new information shows even a mild brain injury or concussion can put you at risk.
