Bill to Abolish Visa Lottery Sent to Full House

A bill to abolish the U.S. government's annual visa lottery, which awards slots for legal entry into the United States, introduced by Virginia Republican Bob Goodlatte, has been referred by the Judiciary Committee to the full House.


Every year millions of would-be immigrants take a gamble and submit their names for the U.S. government's annual visa lottery. The odds of getting permission to move to the United States are slim at best — nearly 15 million people applied in 2010 for 55,000 visas — and could get slimmer.

Critics of the lottery argue that problems of fraud and the potential for the program to be exploited by terrorists make it a threat to national security.

  1. The problem is that are trying to became a citizen legally. The liberals hate that kind of honesty. To become a citizen you must be here illegally first.

  2. We should not stop visa lottery. At least new immigrants get educated or simply informed and counterbalance the ignorance of fine local specimen like 2:23.

  3. Alex, Thank you I am a fine specimen with a good job and kids with straight A's in school. The USA just needs to stop letting people in just to let them in. The money is running out and most of them become burdens on society. Even Mexico doesn't allow immigrants in if they can't be beneficial to the country. Welcome to the USA just do it correctly and legally.
