Analysis: O’Malley Needs Better Explanation For Switch On Gay Marriage

As Gov. Martin O’Malley rolled out his enthusiastic support for a same-sex marriage bill Friday, he was curiously unable to articulate how his thinking had changed so much in just five or six years.

  1. Maybe it's common sense. With the economy in shambles, why do you people give a darn about what consenting adults do with their lives?

  2. Where was his common sense 5-6 years ago. The economy sucked then as well...

  3. Marriage is a union that is broken 50% of the time anymore. No one takes it seriously. Why not let gay people have a shot at it? They can not be as bad as us heterosexuals are at marriage.................I bet the same people on here saying that its only between a Man and Women have a few skeletons in their "closet" if you will.

  4. 11:22 Kids are bad about half the time as well so let the pedophiles have at them. Is this your position too?

  5. One more time...gays are NOT pedophiles. Get your facts straight!

  6. Thank you, 11:52, for trying to set the record straight, but there are some hard heads who will continue to believe what they want. As far as O'Malley's switching his position, apparently he's opened his eyes--or had them opened--just as I have. I am very active in my Christian church, and am a moderate Republican. I have come to realize that gays should not be precluded from entering into a loving relationship just because they are gay. One's orientation--gay or straight--is not a choice. This is part of who we are. Why shouldn't two men or two women who are in love and committed to each other be allowed to marry? Or do you think they should just stay in the closet or enter into a less-than-fulfilling hetereosexual relationship? Yes, I know all about "God did not make Adam and Steve," but let God take care of the sinners if that's what they are. Why should we care?

  7. You idiots missed the point I used your rationale and it went over your empty heads nobody compared gays to pedophiles idiots. Marriage is a bond between a man and a woman who make a covenant with God. You may call yours what every you want but it will be nothing but a Pagan ritual.

  8. "Covenant with God" and "Pagan" are religious-related terms. We're talking about a government-sponsored law. Government and religion are to be separate. As we have known marriage, it IS a "bond between a man and a woman." The issue at hand is whether we should re-define this traditional view of marriage. Can two men or two women create a bond together? Why not? It may not be your view of marriage, but times, they are a-changin'. I do agree that no clergyman should be made to conduct a gay marriage. Such a marriage can be done in the courthouse.

  9. Times they are a changin.Usually the last words of once great societies when they were on the eve of destruction.
