Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Press Release

Incident: Flee and Elude
Date of Incident: 13 June 2011
Location: Ocean Gateway, Hebron, MD
Suspect: Joshua L. Sample, 25, Salisbury, MD

Narrative: On 13 June 2011
at 8:15 PM, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a group of motorcycles on Ocean Gateway eastbound entering Wicomico County at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Additional reports stated that the motorcycles were driving recklessly, cutting off motorists and passing on the shoulder. Multiple deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop the motorcycles that all split off and went in separate directions in an attempt to elude law enforcement. Because of the high rate of speeds, the deputies were unable to catch these motorcyclists. One of the motorcycles was last seen in the Hebron area heading northbound towards Log Cabin Road. Several minutes after discontinuing the pursuit, the WCSO received a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Log Cabin Rd.

Upon the arrival of the deputies, they confirmed it was one of the motorcyclists that had fled from the deputies.

The operator of the motorcycle, Joshua L. Sample, was placed under arrest and transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Sample in the Detention Center in lieu of $15,000.00 bond.

Charges: Flee and Elude
Reckless Driving
Negligent Driving
Speed Greater than Reasonable
Operating a Motor Cycle with a learner’s permit
Operating a Motor Cycle without a Motor Cycle license

1200PM - You are right. I live in Hebron on N Main St. We saw the bike speed by at well over 100mph heading toward rt 50. WC sherriff deputy in unmarked white car was close behind following at almost the same speed. He or she did not have siren on, only lights. The cop did not stop following the bike when they reached rt 50. At that point the cop turned on the siren and sped up to follow the bike. In less than 7 minutes from that time, the FD sent out traffic unit, 2 ambulances, and 1 fire truck. This press release is false, obviously hiding the facts. The fact is, that cop dangerously and selfishly chased the biker through the town of Hebron at speeds over 3 times the posted limit. I'm just glad I was back from walking my dog at that point, and happy to hear no one was killed. Just think what might have happened if a child ran into the road.

  5. Whether or not the cops were chasing the motorcycles, they were already speeding recklessly through the county, hence the first 911 call. Everyone is always ready to jump all over the people that protect you. Why dont you go apply and see how you like the job where everyone hates you unless they need you.

  10. I know right, 7:37, a kid on a bike, just get the plate number. Why risk making it worse? People get killed by these high speed chases and it's pointless if you have the plate number you can just catch at home or work or whatever.

  12. Check out Joshua Sample's criminal record--two pages! This loser not only should not have been driving, he should still be locked up for his multiple criminal convictions! Again, bleeding heart judges and wimpy state legislators in Maryland have contributed to this judiciary mess...
