WalMart Fresh Fruit?

If you think these are just ordinary oranges , well, I'd suggest you click on the images and see all of the MOLD on each of them. It's enough to make anyone sick! We found these Sunday night while shopping for FRESH fruits and veggies.

  1. Got some strawberries there last week. They looked fine on the top, the bottoms were all mold. Had to throw the whole box out. Sure I could probably take them back, but I live 1/2 hour away, not worth a special trip. So yes, really look the "fresh fruits" over carefully before you buy at Walmart.

  5. Harmless mold spores. The skin on an orange protects the fruit inside. Honestly Joe, why do you shop there, all you do is cut them down. Just shop somewhere else, Walmart will never miss you.

  6. Try washing them off with a 10 part per million solution of clorox and let stand in the sun for 1 hour. After this inspect again and then repeat the clorox wipe.Send a sample to the lab for results. By this time all should be rotten , toss in the trash.

  7. Is it my imagination or has the selection of products on the Walmart shelves decreased. I am a loyal Walmart shopper but I have had to become more selective when it comes to meat and vegatables. I typically shop in Pocomoke or in some cases Fruitland and have observed the same lack of selecion at both stores. Pocomoke has some problems in their deli but that is mor of an attitudinal thing. I will continue to shop at Walmart for the bulk of my groceries because I wish not to pay more for the same bread or canned goods due to the Unionistas at Giants and Superfresh.

  8. To anon 10:38 AM:

Do you know that you should never use bleach or water and bleach to clean/kill mold... it is more harmful than good... To kill the mod spores use hand soap and warm or hot water... And as someone stated above, just don't shop there or just wash it off and still at it because the skin does in fact protect it as someone suggested...

    Side Note:
Whats funny is you all drink milk, eat cheese, and probably eat yogurt... Which is all bacteria just like mold... in fact I bet you eat mushrooms to which is a fungus and has bacteria on it as well...

And if you have ever taken penicillin then you sure as heck ate mold!!! so get over it...

I once bought chicken from Sam's Club that turned out to be spoiled.

But my wife called them up and told them and they said bring your receipt and get a refund.

They did and they didn't require bringing back the bad product.

  10. treat it like cheese, cut the mold off and eat it

  11. To be sure, this can happen in "big box" stores like Walmart and Sam's, even if it is an anomaly.

However, especially this time of year, I would HIGHLY recommend to patronize our local farmers markets/road side stands for fresh produce and locally grown fruits/veggies. If you have not.. then you are sorely missing out on fantastic selection and quality. Some of them also offer baked breads, jams, locally grown meats, and/or dairy products. We live in an area that is flush with fantastic local groceries... take advantage of it!

  12. With all the fresh fruit and vegetable grown on the shore, we should have a co-op in Salisbury for growers to sell their produce. Fresh and local is the way to go.

  13. I was also there about 7pm that same night....the deli looked like they were going out of business. I asked for 2 items and they had neither one. The shelves are a mess and the dairy section is often completely out of som eitems, including butter and eggs. First, open up a "superstore" and drive the other retailers out of business. Then hire those other laid off workers at $8 an hour, part time with no benefits. Finally, let the store go to hell because you can. The Walton family is down to their last 150 billion dollars (give or take a couple of billion). What do they care about what we (the serfs) think? (I went to the Food Lion in Delmar. A bit more expensive, but they treated me like gold...).

  16. I have become increasingly disenchanted with shopping at Walmart over the past year. Their produce is usually not up to par (although occasionally you can get good produce), I don't trust buying meats there, and I usually only purchase items there that I can't get at a good sale price elsewhere. They offer no sales to speak of whereas the other food market chains offer good sales each week. And I still can't forgive them for putting all the smaller Mom and Pop shops out of business!

  17. bad fruit and veggies is the very reason I stopped shopping there. I know shop at giant and find I spend no more there then I did at Walmart and I earn gas pts for shell which saves me a bundle

  18. I worked at Sams club for 12 years...Folks they rework the fruits & vegetables daily .. put the moldy stuff on bottom it will sell... yep thats how it works...

  19. I live in Florida most of the time and about the only produce you buy from Walmart here is bananas and grapes.... because they come from Costa Rica and Chile regardless of where you buy them. I also buy Haas avocados because there are always ripe ones in the pile of hard as a rock and rotting fruit.

  22. I have bought a lot of fruit from Sam's Club over the years. I kkep giving them a second chance. Most of the grapes, plums, blueberries & strawberries were on the edge of spoiling. Might be my imagination but I've checked their expiration dates on many products and it seems short. Like they got a special deal from someone because the item's date was close to expiring.

  24. I've found scuds of baby roaches in them in the past. Sooooo, we don't buy fruits & veggies at wally world. (not much else, either)
Never before have I seen that in any other grocery store. If they have 'em, you can't see 'em.
