A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who covered presidential politics and the 2007 Virginia Tech shootings for The Washington Post is going on network television to announce he is an illegal immigrant.
Jose Antonio Vargas tells ABC News in interviews airing Thursday and Friday that he is outing himself as one of millions of illegal U.S. immigrants after living with the secret for years. He also told his story in a New York Times Magazine essay published online Wednesday.
"I'm done running. I'm exhausted," Vargas wrote. "I don't want that life anymore."
He referred a request for comment to his public relations team, which did not immediately make him available Wednesday.
We need to put his dumb A$$ on the first bus out of here!
ReplyDeleteIf that is the case he has to go. Send him back to where he came from. And at the beginning of the school year when all the illegals' children fill out the paper work for school get those addresses and round them up and ship them out.
ReplyDeleteit's a no-brainer. send him back and make him follow the process. Use him as an example AND since he is such a good writer, he can document it.
ReplyDeletethere is a vet in DE that is/was illegal. his wife died, also a vet & the business was in her name because of his status. the community signed petitions and such, and the last I heard he is still in the country. don't know if he has ever done anything to pursue a legal status; his reason for not taking care of it before his wife's death was he to 'too busy'. if you want to live here, take the time to gain legal status. it doesn't happen overnight and time and diligence can make legality happen.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 8:06, his Wife was killed while jogging. The car ran off the road and hit her. He is one of the best vets on the Eastern Shore and has children to raise.
ReplyDeleteThe tone of your message, (IMHO) comes off like he is a bad guy, he is not.
He was NOT here illegally.
I don't give a damn what this reporter has done nor how great he is at his job. He admitted he was an illegal, send him BACK! If they do nothing about this, then it will just further the idea that being an illegal is just fine and dandy. No one should get special props just because of their job or anything. Either get approved to stay here LEGALLY or go back to where you came from. I don't care. This whole situation is just crazy. Shut down the border. Why haven't they done that?
ReplyDeleteHe should go home and get some rest.
ReplyDeleteWhile it's not good that he hid his status for so long, look at what he accomplished. There are so many illegals out there who have come to this country to improve themselves and be part of the "American dream." He is not a deadbeat; rather, he has contributed positively to this country. He is the kind of immigrant we want. Now, he should seek American citizenship. How many of you who say "Ship him back to where he came from" can claim to have accomplished as much as he has?

ReplyDeleteIf I break the law and get caught, I'm pretty sure my personal and/or professional accomplishments don't come into play. Although your heart is probably in the right place, the fact remains, this person is a criminal.
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT HE ACCOMPLISHED. He is illegal. Period. He needs to set an example and follow the process to become a citizen or be sent back to where he came from. There is a reason these laws were put in place. We need to enforce them.
ReplyDeletefantastic point 11:07. if we break the law, it doesn't matter what our profession is.
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean the Washington Post hires illegals? Ship him back if he is here illegally.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet he paid taxes though.
ReplyDeleteFunny, legal people evade taxes, illegal people pay them.
America is bass ackwards.
