Ireton’s “Rhetoric” is Ridiculous

Ireton is doing precisely what his idol Obama does – vilifying in public those who don't agree with him. His personal attack on at least two members of the Council warrants a public apology, as does his recent meltdown outside the Council chambers that was reported in detail on this blog.

It is ironic that he ran against Barrie Tilghman (actually it was Comegys) and now he is following in her wake. No doubt he would be using slurs like "dirty dozen" if she didn't hold its copyright. Instead, his mantra is "turn their backs."

Probably, he also sends nasty and threatening e-mails to those on his enemies list. We have seen that tactic used in City Hall by another mayor.

We are fortunate to have Council members who will face the assault by the mayor, aided and abetted by certain news media and bloggers, that comes with standing up to autocrats such as Tilghman and Ireton who have made Salisbury the laughingstock of the Lower Shore.

  3. Excuse me, but Ireton is not a politician. He is nothing more than a 1st grader in grown up clothes.

  4. It is frightening to think this guy teaches kids! He needs an anger management mandated class and put on his big boy pants so he can move on or just get out of the kitchen, if he thinks it's too hot.

  7. Just saw the video of Ireton's speech at Bateman street- What a jerk! I particularly liked his 'scorecard'...The mayor wins!
Bashing Campbell and Cohen ( two of the best leaders this city has had in years) serves no ones interest, particularly the mayor's. You screwsd up Jimmy, and unless you change your ways in a hurry, there's a whole lot of people who will ruin your chance at holding higher office. we know that's what you want....

  9. Sucks being a liberal mayor in a conservative town.

You let one slip through, Salisbury!

  10. Ireton is being beaten badly by Pollitt, who with the assistance of Barkovich and the RINO's on the County Council has made Wicomico County the laughingstock of the entire Shore and points westerly thereof.

  11. Looking at him and the whole council, while Salisbury deteriorates and property owning residents flee, I am reminded of an older quote - "same circus, new clowns".

What a ridiculous statement. "Probably"? That right there is why this blog can not and will not ever be press.

Did you bother noticing that this piece was labeled as op-ed and not news. "Probably" not.

I not only expect criticism, I look forward to it. I try to learn from it. Unfortunately, commenters like you don't possess the intelligence to teach any of us anything, much less offer an informed opinion.

  14. Who are you kidding G.A.? You pontificate endlessly, quote a philosopher and all of the sudden your barely high school education makes you the smartest of the bunch?! Maybe in your circle of friends you are the most intelligent, but spare the rest of us please!

I'm glad to see that you were using your spell checker. Again, you prove my point. I NEVER said that I was one of the smartest. I implied that you were one of the least intelligent. Sorry you weren't able to grasp that one.

  16. mr. harrison, thank you for your replies to those that don't understand many things like "news vs. commentaries. i don't know if this is one person or 2 or 3 but they sure expose their ignorance regularly.
    again, thanks for your rebukes.

  17. G.A.,

Real press hold even reader-contributed op/ed to certain standards. Rank conjecture as character assassination has no place in a real "publication". This blog can not and will not ever be press. It's a blog. Mazeltov.

How do you know it is conjecture of any sort?

That is your opinion, regardless of how ill-informed it is. Why? For starters, Greg Bassett agrees that we're press. The courts agree that if you adhere to certain rules or standards (none of which you are talking about) we're press.

By your argument, the DT isn't press. Why? I need only point to their op-ed, written by a Gannett employee, that called the GOP majority on county council a bunch of Jihadists.

Now, I have never asked that anyone call me press. Regardless of my criticism of the DT, I have never said that they weren't.

As I noted in the discussion of prayer at the Salisbury council, I don't need them to validate my faith. I damn sure don't need your opinion to validate what classification SbyNEWS is in.

  20. True. You can believe whatever you want to believe. Doesn't make it the truth, though. Mazeltov.
