Say goodbye to Chef Fred's and say hello to the Georgia House Restaurant. The much talked about fine dining in Millsboro, Delaware is now coming to Salisbury.
Chef Fred's will close their doors June 30th and the Grand Opening to the Georgia House Restaurant will happen on July 15th.
This is exciting for those people looking for a really good meal. More to come...
Georgia House is one of my favorites!!!! Great NEWS!!
ReplyDeleteWHAT!!!!
ReplyDeleteChef Freds lunch buffet was the best thing in Salisbury.
so is the bar closing too?
It will be interesting to see if GH retains the bar. They offer beer and wine at their other restaurants, at least the one in Laurel that I patronize. A wonderful restaurant with good, hearty food reasonably priced.
ReplyDeleteThe bar area will be completely divided from the restaurant.
ReplyDeleteThey will NOT be open until 2:00 AM. That is not the clientele they are looking for.
I just checked out GH's menu online and I'm looking forward to them opening in Salisbury. I agree with 10:49 the prices are reasonable. I can't wait to try some of the side dishes!
ReplyDeleteGeorgia House is so good. I am looking forward to this. While the buffet at Chef Freds was tasty and a good deal I think Georgia House will fill that void with affordable quality lunches and dinners.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame another local establishment goes under. They are hard working people. sometime it takes more than that. I do hear that Brenda and Fred will stay on.
ReplyDeleteLets hope so. Good luck to them what ever they choose to do.
Fred & Brenda staying on?
ReplyDeleteOut with the old and in with the new.
Watch out patrons of Chef Fred's! If Fred and Brenda stay on, they will continue to make the servers pay the fees assessed everytime a customer pays with a credit card. If you pay with a credit card and leave a tip on the card as well, Brenda and Fred were taking the 2% (more or less depending on the card) out of the server's tip. If you have to pay with CC, they leave the tip in cash. That way the server receives their full tip.
ReplyDelete11:24 You expect the owners to eat the credit card fee on money they don't get? How is that right? If the credit card company charges 2% then they should deduct 2% of the tip.
ReplyDeleteHopefully Georgia House will leave Fred and Brenda out of it for numerous reasons. Mainly, their dishonesty should speak for itself. Beware of them, GH owners!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I bought a gift certificate from Restaurant.com for Chef Freds last year. One week later we went to redeem it and were informed they weren't accepting them anymore. They didn't offer us a discount of any kind just for coming in. We could not afford their prices without the gift certificate so we left. They didn't seem to care, had poor attitudes. We never went back.
ReplyDeleteGeorgia House fine dining? good food but not fine dining. Very
ReplyDeletesimilar to Dayton's. You will
get good service and value for
your dollar.
Good service and great food. Nothing like southern style home cooked food. My favorite is the sirloin steak. May just be the best restaurant in Sussex and Kent county. Now going to be the best restaurant in Wicomico County

ReplyDeleteServer's are paid next to nothing as it is, surving on tips alone. If the restuarant establishment chooses to accept credit cards then they should accept responsiblity of the charges incurred with such use. The restaurants are making a markup as it is on all food / beverages sold. I highly doubt a 2% fee on a $9 burger ($.18) and a $4 beer ($.08)is going to impact the restaurant owner as much as it will the server. Restaurant goers should be aware of this action. When you tip, you intend that full amount to be given to the server...
Drew, perhaps you should start paying for the right to use your credit card at establishments. I bet you would change your view very quickly.
Also, Zia's is actively practicing this as well. I still eat there however, I ALWAYS tip my server is cash, that way the Restaurant is forced to cover the fee themselves. They are not allowed to deduct from the paycheck...only credit card tips which are paid at the end of the night.
also Drew...Chef Freds is deducting the 2% from the servers based on the WHOLE check...not just the tip. As is Zia's. I do see the greay area that arises from deducting 2% from the tip ALONE, however deducting the fee from servers tip based on the entire check is VERY wrong. Just tip in cash and it saves everyone the trouble.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the business owners should pay the fee for the credit cards. That is part of the cost of doing business. You don't charge the servers a portion of your electric bill or phone bill, so why the credit card fees. It is considered an overhead cost and the server has no control over what the patrons use as a form of payment.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of bass-ackward reasoning does it take to make a person think the SERVER should be paying the trans fee on credit/debit card? If you own the business and you want to accept cards, YOU pay the fee. I just lost a LOT of respect for Chef Fred if this is true.
ReplyDeleteBetter yet -- a Longhorn Steakhouse is on the horizon at the Centre. Yum-yum!
ReplyDeleteGreat restaurant!! Much more upscale than Dayton's; each is good in their own class. The owners of GH are hard, honest workers and pride themselves with a great dining reputation.
ReplyDeleteI take all credit cards and the fee is for the convenience of the customer.I would never think of making the employee pay any part of the fee. People tend to spend more when they can use the card.
ReplyDeleteI usually if possible hand the tip to the wait person and it is always in cash.
chef freds tried to do the same thing cactus club did,,, turn the place into a hip hop gun carrying drug bar to make more money,,,,and where is the cactus at, same place chef freds is goin,,,,AWAY i dont feel sry for either place nor the owners,,,,, we need a good country bar!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy piss your money away?Buy steaks and grill em at home. There IS a recession you know.
ReplyDeleteAmen, 3:23!! We have a better time (and save a lot of money) at home having a home cooked meal together. Can't afford to go out to eat unless its the dollar menu. LOL I know several people personally that can't afford to go out to eat much anymore themselves. I don't know how all these restaurants survive and I fear for the new ones coming in. I wish them well.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone ever wonder how fast food restaurants can still have a buck menu when everyone else is going up are even closing.
ReplyDeleteDrew, are you serious? Why is it the servers problem it the customer pays with a tip? What if they pay the bill with a credit card, but leave the tip in cash. Are they going to make the server empty their pockets and take out 2%? What a scrooge.
ReplyDeleteGeorgia house is a family owned and run franchise.... Great food made on site at reasonable prices. Ask any server or employee and they will tell you how great a company it is to work for. If there were any questionable practices from before, be guaranteed they will not be carried over. When the July 15th grand opening arrives, you will be presently surprised at all the changes they are doing... Salisbury has been needing a restaurant like GH for a long time
ReplyDeleteI agree that Georgia House is definitely a more upscale establishment than Dayton's!! It is more home cooking with a bit of gourmet flare!
ReplyDeleteFor those of you are critical of Chef Fred's I wonder how many have put themselves in a financial position having to meet a payroll. There is a lot more than meets the eye trying to keep a business afloat in this fickle town. All you have to do is look back on the many clousers and maybe you will understand the fact that most eating establishments did really well but but lost support. True some deserved to close but with so many chains it is really hard to compete. Examples would be The Royal Exchange Pub, Watermans and many others to numerous to mention. I know that I will get a lot of negative feed back but try walking in someone elses shoes and maybe you will have a better understanding. It is a really tough business and I am not in the business but know many who are. I am not defending Chef Fred's but just want to say that it is one business I would never like to be in serving Salisbury.
ReplyDeleteI agree 310...we do need a good country bar. brew river use to have country night on sat to keep a certain clientele out.
ReplyDeletehow can they take something that was not intended for them? Is that even legal?
ReplyDeleteI think the GH is OK, nice clean family restaurant. I really won't call it fine dining though.
ReplyDeleteI ordered the lump crab cakes and was wondering where my lumps were for that much money.
The only reason I went there (Milsboro) was because it was my sisters B-day and that's where she wanted to go.
