Civil Rights Group Demands Answers in Shooting

A local civil rights organization says it's asking questions and demanding answers in the case of a 69-year-old man killed last weekend in a shootout with police in his home.

The Coalition for Justice for Civil Rights says it wants to know why police found it necessary to break down William A. Cooper's door to execute a search warrant for prescription painkillers. The group says police could have waited for Cooper to get home and then executed the warrant.

"This could have been handled differently," said Rudy Langford, the coalition's president. "Why not just wait for the guy? It's ridiculous. It didn't have to cost a life."

Langford said he wants to know the circumstances of the shooting, such as more about the informant who provided information about Cooper; how much time elapsed between the police entry and the shooting and how many shots were fired.

  1. Once again the Marxists call foul and attack law enforcement. When they have their SS style law enforcement in place this will be the norm.

  2. Maybe they should just ask the guy, "hey man, are you selling your prescribed medication? Because if you are, that is illegal and we will have to arrest you." Yeah, we all know people tell cops the truth on their illegal activity. I love the second guess Monday quarter backing people!

  3. LOL!!! How many shots were fired?? How many bullets do they carry? There's your answer. A 69 yr old man hopped up on painkillers. You KNOW he moved with cat-like grace and as fast as a lion. It's a good thing the cops were ready for danger. He HAD to be killed. Its was the ONLY way the cops (and I'll bet there were a whole lot of them) could have escaped with their lives. At least someone did.

  4. Why didn't they just set up a sting? Seems like the first thing to try...

  5. Big bad popo got their man. A senior citizen allegedly selling pain pills. Probably his own and trying to make ends meet.

But you're right. It is illegal. He allegedly shot first and popo returned fire, killing the bad old drug seller.

It's too easy to critize, second guess and armchair quarterback, so I won't.

  7. knowing this individual was a 69 year old man, wouldn't it have been alot easier to just wait and pick him up when he was going about his daily routine? seem's to me someone wasn't thinking very much! meanwhile tons of cocaine and other drugs are run accross the mexican border daily and we rarely see the suspects gunned down like this! Very poor judgement all around!
