BREAKING NEWS … NOT

I usually leave this kind of thing to Albero, but c’mon!

A few minutes ago I received a “Breaking News” email form the Daily Times:

POCOMOKE CITY — An area of 50-70 acres of harvested wheat and barley land was burned in a fire June 14.

Breaking news?  From 6 days ago?  This wouldn’t have been breaking news back in the days of the Pony Express!

Contrary to what you may think, I actually like my daily newspapers.  I many not agree with them; but I do enjoy them.  They are important to our community, as a city, county, state, and nation.  However, to maintain their economic viability they need do a better job.  The Daily Times can start by looking at their sister publication in Wilmington.  It’s an excellent paper, despite an editorial board that makes the DT’s look like a bunch of Reaganites.

  4. I was actually at the scene of the fire and can state that it was definitely on June 14th. I can also definitively state that June 14th was six days before June 20th. I can not prove it, but it is my opinion that six day old news in not news.

  5. Can someone please tell me why this blog has a need to continually bash the Daily Times? We all know it isn't a great paper. Are you that worried about them that you have to constantly blow your own horn? Either you are confident in your worth or you're not. If you are, there is no need to beat a dead horse. Give it a rest.

  6. It's a blog, not a newspaper. It's whatever the owner(s) of the blog wish to write. It can be fact, rumor, opinion, or even recipes for borscht if that's what the owner wishes to publish. If you don't like it you don't have to read it. If you wish to sing the praises of the Daily Times you are free to start your own blog.

  7. Can you please tell me why the blog owner continues to receive "breaking news" emails from the daily times if they continuing suck. He has stated they suck year ago.

  8. 12:18, you obviously can't read. 10:11 said nothing about the Daily Times that you could possibly call "singing praises." The question was, why beat a dead horse? And it's a good question. What's the point here other than to bolster something that someone obviously feels is lacking.
