Among Delaware’s Youngest, Minorities Outnumber Whites

To see what Delaware will look like in about 30 years, take a look around a maternity ward or a preschool.

Minorities -- Hispanics, blacks, Asians and others -- are now a majority among Delaware's infants and toddlers age 3 and younger, new figures from the 2010 census show.

The numbers provide an early glimpse of a demographic shift that over the next few decades will leave no racial or ethnic group as a majority, said Ed Ratledge, director of the Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research at the University of Delaware.

Non-Hispanic whites made up 80 percent of Delaware's population in 1990, 72 percent in 2000 and 65 percent last year, census figures show.

  1. They won't be a minority anymore. What will they do with affirmative action? Give whites preferences?

  2. 632, not that I care what color someone's skin is, you bring up a great point.

  3. At least then, white people will have something to complain about. Of course, if you thought the redneck population was hard to shut up now.....

  4. Affirmative Action didn't come about because there were too few minorities. It came about because the majority overtly excluded/overlooked minority talent for decades. But we would think that by now, businesses would see the value of recruiting talent from all spectrums.

  5. 632-Not with the rampant white guilt running through the democratic party. I'm all for a level playing field, not some BS where your creed or skin color earns you points.

Actually GA, this year will be the first in which minority births total more than caucasian births nationwide.

  6. Employees will still need good work ethics and educated skills. Maybe the change will bring about better pay when only most of the skilled labor with great work ethics is the minority.

  7. Why is this even a subject for discussion?

  8. Old white guys are afraid they will now get treated like they have treated minorities all these past years.
    What goes around comes around.

  9. So in the not-too-distant future, whites will become the new minority. If, as 6:32 asks, will there still be affirmative action, or will that be phased out? Will whites, then, be accorded preference? I guess, 8:34, that's why this is a subject for discussion. Everything will be turned upside-down.

  10. There is a BS factor to these kinds of stories which amounts to wishful thinking on the part of some and race baiting on the part of others, all of whom would be classified as liberals.

First off, "hispanic" is not a racial designation, it's a language group. These predictions use US census stats, and the US Census repeatedly states on their website that hispanic can be "any race", including white. If you think Latinos are nonwhite, then I will introduce you to Mel Martinez, George Prescott Bush, and a host of other "hispanic" people who are also caucasian.

There is a push in the academic and media cores to narrow the definition of caucasian to "white people". This is BS of the first order. "White people" is a synonym for caucasian. Narrowing caucasian to mean "bright white" is like saying that "black people" only means pitch black people. Black people means negro or congoid, another broad spectrum. When you are classifying the world into four major groups, there is going to be huge variation. Huge numbers of East Indians, Arabs, Persians, North Africans, and Latinos are part of the caucasian supergroup.

Notice how these articles always neglect to mention that the projection for blacks is that they will be down 25% in representation to 9% of the US population by 2050. Leaving this out is undoubtedly fueling some of the black violence of late. These young people look out their window in the ghettoes and think they are in the majority. They have no clue that this country is actually 72.4% white and only 12.6% black.

Yes, you read that right. The country is currently 72.4% white. So why the discrepancy? Because liberal academics are at work here. In the US Census, people self identify by race. So when Joe Martinez, a white Puerto Rican, and Manuel Diaz a white Cuban fill out the form, they check the boxes for family of 5 caucasians. But when academics count children, THE ACADEMICS designate "race" and they have decided that people with Spanish surnames are nonwhite.

Finally, a huge flaw in all of this is that race is static. It's not. This flaw is based in the LIE that race is "just about skin color". It isn't. Race is the physical appearance generated by an endogamous culture or tribe. So the white race might tan better or get darker over time, and blacks might get lighter, and orientals might get taller or sharper featured.... but the underlying tribe will live on for a long time.
