Warning To Local Young Mother's

Hi Joe,

Just wanted to pass along some information.  Walmart in Fruitland is currently still selling Similac baby formula that was recalled LAST YEAR.  I called and reported it to a customer service manager earlier this week, but they are still on the shelves today.  Just a warning to all parents out there!

Hi again Joe,
Sorry for the multiple emails.  I stopped by the store after work and took the attached photos.  Formula is still on the shelves. As I mentioned, I reported it to the store and even took them off the shelf myself... however, they keep ending up back there.  Short of purchasing the old formula myself to take it out of circulation, I don't know what more I can do.  I took a closeup of the old container (recalled version) sitting right there among the new.  They are obviously old, besides looking differently, most containers are damaged and dirty.  I am really concerned that no one took this seriously, as the formula was recalled because it had beetle larvae in it and was making infants ill.

  2. anonymous 9:05, believe me, WBOC and WMDT read SBYNews.com more than anyone else visiting this Blog. If they're interested in it, they'll cover it.

  3. Why doesn't someone call call Abbott's consumer hotline at 1-800-986-8850.
If this formula was truly dangerous,(it evidently caused some stomach upset, but is not in any way permanently health- or life- threatening) I would call myself, but I don't have the details Abbott will want. I am sure they would be unhappy with such a large retailer as WalMart ignoring a consumer's pleas to take this off the shelf. To whomever has the needed lot #s, etc, why don't you take some action?

  4. Do the bottles have recent expiration dates? Is that how you know they are old? Or is there a date of manufacture?

  5. Joe,

Wal-Mart has a pretty weird policy on recalled products. What they do is pull all the product out down to the distribution centers, but not store by store. An exec explained the policy last year when chinese manufactured childrens costume jewerly which had a toxic element in it was recalled, but still found at many stores after the recall. It's a shady practice to say the least, any company of that size should know where and how much they have of each product, it's a database any manufacturer/distributor would have.

  6. Dear concerned Mom

For the cans you purchased go to web-site

    http://recall.similac.com/recall/
    lookup

Put in the lot number found on the bottom of the can/plastic container. The 9/22/10 recall were in containers of sizes 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce.

Than go to Fruitland Walmart - write down the lot numbers - go on the web-site again and put in the lot numbers.

If any of the lot numbers show up on the recall list, than go back to Fruitland and show them the proof. Walmart should have done this - but if you can show them actual proof, employees will not take you to be a disgruntled shopper or employee.

  7. report it to maryland attorney general, consumer protection agency, and walmart headquarters.
also give the name of the manager and the date and times you spoke with them. This manager should be fired!

  8. Has the Health Dept been notified? I had to go to the health dept. to prove that we do NOT recieve WIC in order to get a refund for my recalled formula. Surely they would want to know that Walmart is still selling recalled formula.

  12. Store Manager's name is Dave Young. Get your documented proof together and go let him know. He's usually there during the day.
