SALISBURY: ARE YOU READY FOR SOME . . . MORE TAXES?

Don’t be duped by Jim Ireton’s self adulation about his proposed City budget – no property tax increase – because at the same time he has his minions scheming up a new tax on City property, including homes. Of course, it won’t be called a tax or even a “fee” after those O’Malley ads last year (“Hey, Bob . . .”).

Instead, it will be touted as a charge for the City’s “stormwater utility”. That’s what the state agency that the City is using for guidance suggests, along with such euphemisms as “dedicated funding stream” and “revenue source” – to avoid using terms like “tax” or “fee”.

Look for Ireton to go public with this scheme for a new tax once the budget debate is done. Fortunately the three members of City Council who were elected this year are on record against more taxes. During any chance encounter you may have with any of them don’t hesitate to remind them about their pledge made during the campaign.

  1. Our government is letting us down when it comes to taxes. We broke away from England on the basis of unfair taxation and because of the greed and growth of our government, they want MORE!

Say they raise taxes. Say the economy rebounds under Republican leadership and the government takes in plenty of money to pay their bills. Do you think they will reduce taxes or do you think they will find ways to get bigger and spend even more?

I think taxes should be based on the economy. If the economy is going in one direction, let everyone chip in a little m,ore to help, but if the economy is doing the opposite, then automatically reduce the tax burden and let the free market run like it should.

  3. After what he said about Ms. Campbell in the hall outside the Council meeting this week, we hope that she will tell him to "shove it" too.

  4. This city needs a real full time mayor, not some under qualified office girl who can't even handle a class room full of 3rd graders.

A salary of $95K per year and eliminate John Pick and Lore Chambers from their positions. Problem Solved!!

  5. Look for more new charges like this from Ireton in the next year plus, so he can run for reelection in 2013 and say that he didn't increase the property tax rate.

  6. I didn't think he possibly would be worse than Barrie Tilghman, but I was WRONG!

  7. Lets ask the mayor this:

When you take 100% of everyone's paycheck and still need more money to run the govt, what will you do? you can't tax past 100% of peoples pay...

When you have millions upon millions or even billions for that matter; and when you have everything paid for by the tax payer's, as you pretend to serve us, When is millions enough money???

When you have enough money to pay for every thing anyone could even want or need for 5 generations of your family after you die, when is that enough money?

When you have to step on people and stab people in the back to get the millions or billions, what is the money truly worth?

I mean the govt workers are killing the planet and take everyone's money, for what? to live lavish for a few years and then what, you die... you can't take it with you so for what is the reasons to do such things?

I wish we could get a revolt going to over throw the govt all together...

  9. This doesn't surprise me a bit. The mayor gave his buddy the new fire chief the OK to waste the rest of the overtime budget before the end of the fiscal year. They are burning that OT budget up on slots that aren't needed what so ever. Mayor Ireton and Jeff Simpson should be terminated for stealing tax dollars.

  10. We also have Jeff Simpson's ridiculous spending to deal with. The idiot had all the windows in that new fire palace tinted. I wonder how much that cost tax payers?

  11. I just commented on the budget press release above. So Ireton's going to veto the budget the council's working on? That confirms my suspicions that the ad not being placed on the budget was a set up job. That boy in mayor's clothing is trying to torpedo the new council that the PEOPLE voted for!

  12. yeah tax all the cheap retirees that have moved here after selling off in north jersey and NY and think because they raised families there they don't need to support schools and infrastructure here
they make the most demands as to safety and security and are the tightest when it comes to shilling out and being contributing members of a community
and it is our own developers and contractors that put up the tacky card board villages with fences and burns and faux golf courses
I don't think gangs or illegals are the real problem here on the shore
it's the carpet bagging infiltrators that think just buying in affords them some right to peace and quite and cheap living
    Tax the cheap bastards

  13. I don't think anyone has taken Mare Ireton seriously. He's a drama queen with ADHD who just wants attention to try to feel important. Helplessness is on the way!

  14. As it stands now , we have about 90,000,000 people in the U.S. that depend government checks like welfare or SSI.
The 80,000,000 that work cannot support this any longer.
It's not the Mayor or the city council , it's the way we run our country now. PURE socialism at its finest. Taxes , taxes , taxes and the dream act etc. and on and on.
Have to go now , just puked thinking about this.

  15. Lipstick on a pig doesn't make the pig anything more than a pig. He's just another TAX & SPEND democrat!
Call a tax a fee, it's still a tax. And(I know you're not supposed to start a sentence with "and")What storm water? Haven't we had drought for 5 years, now? Seems like it. Is stormwater utility the filters on the huge 6 feet drainage conduits? Or the guys who go around(supposed to, anyways)cleaning the grates?

  18. Way to go Mayor!! Soon, all low income housing along w/those second class citizens will be rid of my city,or at least we can put huge stipulations on rentals and make tenants pay double in rent. But dont tell them, they are all stupid. Our crime rate will drop to nothing because they commit all the crimes. We all know that. They will have to eventually leave this city. If that doesnt work just raise the water bills every year and dump the waste in the wicomico river. Keep up the good work!! Your doing a great job!!
