Gov. Bob McDonnell said Thursday that the state budget will have a surplus in the fiscal year that ends June 30.
He did not say how much the surplus would be, but on the WRVA (1140 AM) radio show "Ask the Governor," he attributed the revenue gains to his job-creation program, which, he said, has led to higher withholding and sales-tax collections.
Revenues have exceeded estimates in 13 of the past 14 months.
The state ended the two-year budget cycle last June 30 with a $400 million surplus. The state is required by the Virginia Constitution to balance the budget.
