Fruitland Chamber Endorses Pollitt Tax Rate Hike

The Fruitland Chamber of Commerce recently issued a letter to the members of the Wicomico County Council announcing their support for County Executive Rick Pollitt’s FY 2012 budget AND Pollitt’s proposed 5 cent property tax rate increase:

Dear Wicomico County Council Member:

The Fruitland Chamber of Commerce supports the budget proposal as presented by the County Executive which includes a five cent increase in property taxes.  The Chamber’s members unanimously voted to approve this decision at our well attended General Membership meeting, which was held May 18, 2011.  The Chamber is very concerned about the critical services that would be reduced if the property tax increase is not approved.

Please take our recommendation under consideration

Sincerely,

Dizzy Bromley

President, Fruitland Chamber of Commerce

It should be noted that we do not know how many people actually attended the meeting or who voted.  Several businesses who are members of the Fruitland chamber expressed surprise that the chamber would support such a measure and stated that if they had known this was being voted on would have attended to vote against the measure.

  2. Then let Fruitland pay for the increase needed. Why would you idiots support Pollitt? You want him back, no problem, you can have him back! Most of us don't want him anymore. He learned absolutely nothing from the last election.

  3. Looks as if King Richard is getting desperate by reaching across the county lines to get support. Many of the Fruitland members live or own businesses in Somerset County (see their website)Mrs Bromley lives in Snow Hill and does not own a business in Fruitland.

  4. Doesn't Dizzy work for Pete Rosovitch in Fruitland and doesn't she live in Worcester County?

  5. I wonder if Pollitt told them that this tax increase would raise their inventory and PP taxes also?

  6. Where -- another County, perhaps -- does "Dizzy" reside?

  7. As a member of the Fruitland Chamber I knew that Mr Pollitt was going to make a presentation so I did not attend, however I did not that a endorsment was at hand. I will NOT renew my membership.

  8. Bromley works at Adam's Rib's so she was repersenting Pete on this one. Wait until the 9% alcohol tax hits them and then the 6.5% from the county( Pollitt says its just a nickel).Get ready Sperry Van Ness. More blue and white signs.

  9. I wonder if they did that so now it will be alright to raise our already outrageously high Fruitland Taxes? We have had enough, where do they think we can continuously come up with more money for them to waste? No more taxes, no more increase in fees, no more!

  10. all you need to do is look at all the taxes and fees that must be paid by all who live in fruitland and then tell me ricky did a great job in that little enclave.

many people don't want to live there because of the cost of living.

  18. I may be wrong, but I don't believe the Chamber is related to City of Fruitland Government.

  19. It does not matter where one lives as far as the members of the ZFruitland Chamber goes, if they have a business in Fruitland Maryland they have a right to voice their opinions on taxes being set forth in Wicomico County . If they do it at the chamber , on the street or whereever. The chamber is to support the businesses in Fruitland. All membeers are notified a week in advance as to where the meetings are and who the guest speakers will be. If they do not attend the meetings then they should not be complaining as to what goes on in the meetings. You do not appear,so be it. AThat is the members choice. Votes can not be approved or disapproved if you do not make an appearance.

  20. I also would advise everyone to check out the Fruitland Chamber web page and see for yourself who are members and what their businesses are.

  21. Fruitland's proposed budget was out for public at the last monthly meeting.. I was at that meeting and there were very few people there . Go to city hall and pick up a copy of it. You may be surprised at what you find out.

  22. I heard that the Wicomico County Council wants to do away with the meals on wheels. I hope you sleep at night and I pray to GOD that neither one of the meals on wheels clients are related to you. May be some of you should have to live like their clients do and then see if you would do away with the program. People helping people is a good thing. Ambulance service and firehouses could be hantsthe ones to save your life. Have either one of you ever thought about that.
