Wicomico Budget Hearing tonight
7:00 pm
Civic Center
Please tell your family and friends about the meeting.
Please plan to attend.
If we loose parks we loose tourism dollars.
If we loose tourism dollars we loose hotel, resturant, gas station,
retail stores, etc., dollars.
We generate over $9,000,000.00.
We are just 1% of the budget. It only costs each resident of
Wicomico County a little over $11.00 to have and maintain our
parks and recreation facilities. That's the lowest in the state of Maryland.
We need your support.

ReplyDeleteYou'd think they would proofread
Sorry I was in a hurry. I'm not an employee just a volunteer. How many hours do you volunteer? Sorry for not being perfect.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the County's parks. In particular my family uses Pemberton park on a regular basis. They should focus on other cuts, such as employees that are not needed. An example of this would be Joey Arthur at Public Works. Eitherway, this should be a good meeting tonight.
ReplyDeleteI would be happy to support our parks if they would stop with the wasteful spending. I'm don't want to contribute my hard earned cash so they can continue wasteful spending.
ReplyDeleteParks and recreation are NOT core functions of government.
ReplyDeleteOur roads are turning to crap because we don't have the money to pave them, yet we're worried about losing recreation programs.
We can hardly get a police response on weekends because they're so undermanned, and we're worried about recreation programs.
Wow. What a set of priorities.
Haha. Joseph Arthur is mentioned again. Does he still work there?
ReplyDeleteWasteful spending has been going on for yrs. The public should have the right to view what is spent & how on everything!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRemember Pollitt giving the raises to , I believe 3 people, shortly after he was appointed? Some of these High Salarys need to Go!
With the slow economy I am wondering if Planning and Zoning staff has been cut. Certainly there isn't enough to keep a full staff busy full time. Public works also needs staff cuts.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up there were many small parks (i.e. Woodcock Park on Riverside Road) that during the summer they hired a college kids to be in charge of the big green game box. All of us kids hung out there and it kept us out of trouble. To me that was not wasteful spending as it made our community a better place to live.
ReplyDeleteI agree it needs to be about prioritization. Without roads, there are many things that would be impossible, or impassible, depending on how you look at it.
ReplyDeleteThe public information officer cost the taxpayers with salary and benefits almost $80.000.00 a year. There's your money for rec @ parks.
ReplyDeleteyou talk about wasteful spending ride by the roads division and look at all the equipment sitting idle and weathering away !!! much of this was purchased way before the economic downturn or before staff was transferred and layoffs were implemented.all purchased because taxdollars were there and so called had to be spent! boy all that equipment spent money sure would have looked nice sitting in a road resurface account now. there is still alot of fat there to be trimmed. also except for weather emergencies why do we need any take home vehicles in that department? huh john redden!
ReplyDeleteas far as anon 2.59 comment on police maybe if we brought back the paddle and a principal with the nerve to use it like the ole dayz in school maybe you could take the cops out of wicomico county schools and let them do the job they are paid for which is police the county.delaware does not put up with the b.s. out of school kids as wicomico does. parents and teachers need to do there job and take the cops out of wico schools

Guess what, you're not growing up any more and those days are gone. Parks a wasteful spending. Cut all of them out of the budget. Definitly not a core function. In other words the parks aren't needed.
NEWSFLASH
ReplyDeleteRick Pollitt has been advertising this meeting for several days on the local stations. This wasn't free so some one had to fork over the funds. Question... Who paid for it and why?
Advertising a public meeting on radio wouldn't be charged.

core function! core function! ok lets close all the parks so you can take your family w/small children for a stroll down church or isabella street and enjoy the nice scenery.gary mackes and the whole recreation, parks and tourism staff work hard to provide clean enjoyable AFFORDABLE SERVICES AND FUNCTIONS for the taxpayers of wicomico county.ever been to pemberton park, upcoming events like pork in the park, the wine fest, bike week at wpp, all functions which are very affordable and enjoyable with little or no problems at all.
ReplyDeleteIsn't this the same department that handles the Wine Fest, Pork In the Park? Once again, they start at the bottom rather then the top where there are so many inflated over paid salaries in the many of the top offices. This is what the world has come to, the rich get richer and the poor get poor and middle class get stuck paying the bills.

No shat Sherlock!! It wasn't a PSA!! PSA's are always followed by the statement it was a "Public Service Announcement."
If you don't know what the heck you are talking about with facts don't comment, it makes you look like more or a moron than you are.

5:33 pm - I agree, I would rather cut useless salary and benefits than our parks. There are a lot of people in the County that are being paid a lot of money that aren't producing. With things being slow do we really need to be over paying under qualified people, such as Joe Arthur, to sit around and do nothing all day? Save the parks, and cut the dead wood.
