Is Obama Politicizing Our Men and Women in Harm’s Way?

With a looming government shutdown, why would the Obama administration deem our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines as “non-essential”?  The answer is simple.  Politics!!!
According to Big Government, the Obama administration has directed that IF there is a government shutdown our military personnel (uniformed and civilian) will have their paychecks withheld.  Of course they will be paid, only after any shutdown ends.  In the meantime, the spouses and children of our military personnel could be deprived of their allotments and unable to meet normal expenses.  This is something that has never occurred during any previous shutdown.
Why would they do this?  Red State’s Erick Erickson provides some insight:
Democrats are getting pasted in the budget debate generally. They can’t beat the GOP on the argument that cuts are needed. The Democrats have no plan for cutting the deficit, and even liberals are calling Paul Ryan ‘courageous.’ They can’t win, because they simply can’t engage on cutting entitlements. So the GOP was winning on budget cutting, winning on the FY 2012 budget, and likely to win on the debt ceiling vote. The Democrats need a way to change the debate.
Remember, the only reason we are on the verge of a government shutdown is because for the first time since the budget act was passed in the mid-seventies, a Congress — controlled by Democrats last year — failed to pass a budget. That’s right. We are where we are because the Democrats last year failed to pass a budget and now are refusing to go along with cuts as the GOP sorts out the mess the Democrats made.
The only way the White House can do that is to get a shutdown. They want to put the blame on the GOP, but even more than that, they want a shutdown. So the argument will be that spending bills start in the House, and the House still hasn’t passed anything that can get 60 votes in the Senate. And until they do, the fault for the shutdown lies with the GOP. And, in the meantime, our soldiers are fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya and cannot get paid.
Sadly, such maneuver is not illegal.  If a president could be impeached for moral crimes, then Barack Obama should be run out of Washington if he allows this to happen.

  1. The U.S borrows 4 billion(with a B) a day from China. The Congress wants to cut 61 billion(16 days of borrowing)from the budget so we don't have to pay for some hookers abortion. I think Obama wants the country broke. It is all part of his buddy Soros plan for "The Great Society". The U.S will have to dominish to be under U.N control. And it has already started look at what is going on with Lybia and our military. 2012 can't get here fast enough to stop this man.

  2. Holding the military and their families HOSTAGE!
    And blaming the GOP.
The Republican proposal is very workable and well thought out.
    The Dem proposal is..
    a blank sheet of paper.
No budget, but that's the republicans' fault.
    Right.

  3. This should be a sin if you believe in God.

If they are considered non-essential, then bring them home to guard or borders and help make our streets safer.

    Good writing.

  5. Unfortunately, the article for the source of your information is lacking facts. Military received pay last time because 2 distinct differences from last time. The first shutdown lasted only a week. For pay to be affected, a shutdown must last two weeks. After the first shutdown, Clinton and Congress passed a bill for ONLY military pay - no ideologically driven riders. This allowed their pay to continue.

No funding has been appropriated for most agencies this time around. There are no funds to pay the military until Congress passes a bill that appropriates the funds. Some agencies and programs are funded in 2-year chunks, so some programs will continue to run, and their staff will be paid as normal.

Those agencies and departments that are funded each year, such as military, DOE, EPA, etc, will be shuttered except for exempt employees (essentially, all of the military, staff in other departments that protect life, security, etc). They will not be paid, and it is up to Congress to approve backpay.

The Antideficiency Act prevents the executive branch from using money not appropriate yet. Obama would be violating that law if he were to authorize payment.

  6. Anon 1103 -

That was the point ... which you obviously missed! The military personnel would be paid except that the Obama administration has declared that they are "non-essential".

READ all of the material next time before you try to argue.

  7. GA, Sorry, but you are not understanding the issue. What is happening now is exactly what would of happened under Clinton.

Congress, as usual, is using the military to play politics and try to score points. If they were truly respectful of the military, they would do a stand-alone bill that would sail through Congress and be signed by the President.

Whether you are exempt or not exempt, you still do not get paid. I have been declared exempt and will report on Monday, regardless of what happens. I have no guarantee of pay unless Congress authorizes back-pay (government wide or for only those exempt).

Again, The ONLY reason military got paid last go around was a stand-alone, politics free bill was passed providing special appropriations that funded military pay BEFORE the shutdown. There is NO funding this time for military pay and it would be against the law to pay salaries.

  8. At least the GOP does not play politics with important parts of American Life for their own political gain, all at the expense of others.

    Wait...

To quote the GOP's favorite book, "Let he who is without sin..."

  9. Republicans aren't 'playing politics', dan
They're trying to save this country from bankruptcy-- something the dems seem intent on bringing about (so they can declare martial law and turn this into a full-blown dictatorship).

Funny how liberals become theologians when it suits them..

  10. I am not being a thologian, 8:49. I bring that up becuase your side squawks long and loud about how much more pious your are then everyone, and how Jesus loves you more than the dirty libs.

If you are truly more Christ-like than the rest of us, tehn own it and act like it. If you don't, it seems like you are being disengenuous and cherry-picking your beliefs.

    Only liberals do that, right?
