    Thanks Joe. That steps back in my childhood and I have listened to Mr. Long many days awaiting a specific flock to be sold. This is a wonderful post for those of us who have lived here all of our lives.

    Am I getting old, or what? I remember listening to Carroll Long on the radio during the auction and also watching his market report on WBOC at night.

    I would say mid to late 50's. I remember the show and Carroll Long both. He sold the poultry sometime around noon on Wednesday I think so that the farmers could be in the house to listen to their flock being sold. Fond memories.

    Carroll Long used to own The Bank of Fruitland. Very nice man.

    For all of those out there - the chicken auction yielded higher prices for the independent poultry grower as opposed to the current practice of contract growers.

    Everyone who owned a chicken house could sell their birds at the chicken auction. Today - the poultry company controls the incubation, feed conversion, heat, you name it.

    I knew a lot of farmers who wished the chicken auction were still in existence.

    I do remember Carroll Long and remember when he was on What's My Line. Can you believe that was as popular as DWTS and Idol! We had a small black and white TV. I graduated from H.S. in 56 and I think this was prior to that. Maybe 1954.
    Who remembers Bennett Cerf, Arlene Francis, Dorothy Kilgallen, Guest Star Actor David Niven?
