  3. Ah, springtime & the sounds of idiots on crotchrockets trying to kill themselves. Bad part of it is, he'll probably take someone else out with him.

  4. These superbikes can outrun ANY police cruiser with ease.

  5. Not to worry.... he'll catch himself on a phone poll or the back end of an 18 wheeler... and just be another grease spot.

  6. speeds of 130mph thats not too bright... but cops are too hyped up for a chase and dont think that at that speed if they cause the guy to run at those speeds he will surely kill someone.... ALL high speed chases should be banned just for this reason. Plus its not like the police or the state is going to pay any damages caused by a cop chasing a guy and causing a bad crash

  7. A lot of states have banned high speed chases. Especially involving motorcycles, because there is really no chance of them catching them. In some cases if the motorcyclists were to crash and kill themselves the family could end up suing law enforcement. As crazy as it sounds they can and most likely win the suit.

  8. Cory, you are absolutely right. A high speed chase makes it more dangerous for everyone: the chased, the chaser and innocent public on the roadways. This should be banned! This is not a good job. It is just plain stupid!

  9. I believe that the chase should be based on the crime committed. Chase an amber alert to the gates of hell, pull off of a speeding deal. Watch commanders should make the call, not a jazzed up officer high on adrenaline.

  10. Maybe it should be the person who choose to run who should pay for the damages. Have you ever thought about holding them acountable. Nevr mind, tha would make sense.

  11. use a radio. use your drain. if one of my family members is hurt by a police car, i'm suing that cop and the agency. the practice needs to stop. why is this even a question???

  12. So, someone rapes your wife, kills your daughter... Lets not chase them, cause it may hurt them.

Idiots, lets just hope they dont go off and kill someone, as soon as bad guys know you wont chase them, it will get worst.

Move back to England or something, become a Muslim.. Gee really? If we hang more criminals or firing squad maybe that would deter it. No we say lets educate them and give them cable.

    We all know rehabilitation works.

  13. 10:02 thats fine but if there is no chase then there would be no chance of damage due to the police pushing the envelop to that.... high speed pursuits should be banned.... the cops simply need a tag# from the vehicle and investigate from there. the guy will have to stop sometime

  14. for those of you un educated individuals commenting, the duty officer is the one who authorizes all chases for 90% or more of all departments and there are chase criterias involved, which is developed based on the crime committed, at this point no one knows why the chase was initiated so why criticize if you don't know, joe runs a decent blog however its all the un educated commenters that create the drama wheel each and every day

    respectfully,
    Leo

  15. If you have an official policy of not chasing, I think more people would run...

  16. Agreed that bragging will likely be the end of this guys joy ride. He'll have a few drinks and brag within earshot of the wrong person, that'll be it. He's having a good time tonight though!

  17. last year an idiot county police officer from PG county gave chase to a speeding motocylist on the beltway, needless to say after the officer launched his vehicle over the center guardrail and impacted an oncoming vehicle killing hmself and all the occupants. They never caught the motocyclist. How many people in Maryland have been killed by speeding police officers? responding to minor infractions? Ans, to many!
the word to use here would be discernment, which unfortunately most seem to be lacking in that department!

We'll see, the next time you need police asist., then moan and groan about how they do nothing, or cry and cary on about how L O N G they took getting to you, they can always say, " Sir, the word we must use at this time is discernment, we would'nt want peopl saying our dept. lacks that, now would we".

Stop the B.S. tougher cops makes for safer streets.

  19. The decisions to pursue or not to pursue must be based on the merits of the individual situation. And they are. The duty officer monitors every call and is responsible for making the decisions. If an agency adopts a "no pursuit policy" it effectively neuters the patrol officers on traffic stops for those who fail to comply. No. A no pursuit policy is a mistake. Prudence and common sense, however, are necessities.

  21. not knowing any circumstances, couldn't they road-block well ahead, say around a slight curve in the road? Just askin'.

  22. 7:11 spoken like a true government robot! I don't call the police, I'll handle it myself. Cause I know by the time the cops get there it'll be to late! They can take a statement from the perp if he can talk!

    ReplyDelete
  23. 7:11 "tougher cops make safer streets"? yeah just what the public needs more uneducated napoleans with a badge and a gun and a little bit of authority out there roughing people up for minor offenses!
Maybe you ought to move to a country where that is the norm! china maybe?

  24. Why did they not request air support? A chopper can manuver over the sky and that clown on the bike could not out run a chopper.

Most criminals use diversionary tactics; send a bike out at high speed to capture cops attention and than commit a crime elswhere...Hmm
    thoughts from folks??

  25. anonymous 8:26, at 130 mph, calling in a helicopter makes no sense. They couldn't warm up the blades before this guy was long gone.

  26. I watched a porsche on a california highway walk away from a police helo. Seem's like a waste of resources for a speeder!

  27. I brought up the subject because the police should NOT ever put the public in danger by chasing anyone to speeds of 130mph its stupid and and simply not worth killing some other innocent motorist or pedestrian walking across a street because some cop thinks writing tickets is the way to go... all a cop needs is a radio and people ahead of the criminal running to get the guy to stop or simply get the tag# of the vehicle and get the guy later that day.... im sorry but if i got into an auto accident because a dumb cop like this id punch the guy in the mouth and demand my car and all medical bills be paid by the officer and the state

  28. Cory, If someone kindapped my daughter, and the police thought they had the vehicle, I would kill somebody if they told the officer not to try to chase that vehicle down. It could mean the matter of life and death. If the circumstances are okay, I don't have a problem with ANY police chase. Criminals have enought rights already, lets not give them a right not to be chased.

  29. What's the status? Have they located this nut case?

Try the Lake Street area; all kinds of dudes driving bikes with no proper tags and no helmets...

  31. 9:53, we are talking about speeders here. Not felonies!
    learn the difference!
Of course if the guy on the motorcycle kidnaps your daughter, Is he really kidnapping her if she is holding on tight to him?
Why doesn't she just jump off?

Criminals use Diversionary tatics all the time and this information was for others to review. You must Watch too much TV if you assume that is where I aquired my information from SIR!

  34. Cory: First of all to say stopm chasing all together is an idiotic remark! Chasing motorcycles most of the time is rediculous. It will depend on the a lot of factors, i.e. time of day, traffic, weather conditions etc. Most of the time a motorcycle chase is called off. Yes the cops get hyped but for the most part they call it off themselves before the duty officer does. But to have a no chase policy just tells the criminals "run run run away from the law they can't chase you". And getting a tag number is a start but good luck proving who was driving if you didnt get a positive ID on the driver. You assume that the registered owner is always the driver. well most of the time when someone runs they are not the registered owner. Chases are determined on the crime committed. If the cop IDs the driver then 99.9% of the time the chase is called off and the police get a warrant. If it is a crime of violence then the chase is on! Common sense plays a big role in all this. Dont be so closed minded when you have no clue about what you are talking about and that goes for everyone not just Cory!

  35. I wish MSP would hang out on the by-pass between the Johnson Road overpass & Snow Hill Road exit. The motorcycles, especially those crotch rockets, gun it on that straight away. Enough to rattle my windows. The noise level just keeps getting worse.

  37. Crown Vics governed at 126 mph due to tire speed rating some of the "interceptor" cars had no high speed governing and the V-rated tires, up to 149 mph but, these were dropped due to cost cutting measures thus the cars had to be slowed down. In other words to chase a 1200 cc motorcycle capable of 130-140 milrs an hour is simply a waste of fuel, resources and a liability risk as well.augher

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yeah but if EVERYBODY knew that the police couldn't chase them NO BODY would stop for speeding. I say chase'em and if they kill themselves so be it.

For others to review huh? You're an instructor now are ya? lol

Sheriff Buford T. Justice I presume? lol

So instead of chasing someone going past at say, 100 mph, we should head to the banks and catch his partner that is robbing it lol

Somehow that just doesn't seem feasible to me. But what do I know? I don't have 30 yrs in criminal justice field lol.
