5 Grocery Staples That Are Getting More Expensive

Natural disasters, fuel prices are inflating prices around the globe

Consumers saw groceries price increase by 2.8 percent during the last yearly period, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistic's most recent Consumer Price Index report.

This "food at home" component includes grocery staples such as milk, bread, vegetables and meat. World economic growth, rising crude oil prices, shrinking stockpiles, strong commodity demand and severe crop-destroying weather have created a perfect storm of sorts, resulting in rising food costs worldwide. In fact, the global food price index, compiled from price data for sugar, cereals, oils, meat and dairy products, recently reached an all-time high.

The effects of increased food costs are felt everywhere, from the school cafeteria to our favorite restaurants. Here are five staples that cost more at the grocery store:

    Wake up folks, everything that has corn in it is going up because the government requires gasoline to have 10% ethanol in it. Ethanol is mainly made from corn. Corn used to make ethanol can't be made into food. This added demand for corn drives up the price and everything made from corn. More genius exhibited from our friends in DC.
