Since the question was asked what change we'd like to see, I will say that, whatever one thinks of the "Weasel," she kept the Council on task and didn't tolerate excessive grandstanding. We do need a Council president who will move the agenda along.
i would like to see the council have one meeting a month so the public could attend and have a dialoge with the council members on up coming bills. i proposed this last summer but got no response. i would also like to see the public be able to speak to council just before the vote is held on bills. now we have almost no input before the passage of bill by council. thanks sjd
11:36, Louise Smith was the biggest grandstander of all. She would pick out details that weren't important just to make it sound like she was doing something. She repeated stuff Gary Comegys said all the time. She held things up from getting to the agendas to suit herself not we the people.
Smith was a prime hold up to the council work, good rittance!
As for what changes I'd like to see in the meetings, I agree with 11:43 that the public should be able to comment on bills before a vote. I'd like the New Barrie Tilghman Mayor to keep quiet. I'd like the work sessions to be more public, like starting them later or putting them on tv or something so we know what's going on before it's last-minute.
LISTENING. I would like them to listen to each other. But more importantly I would like to see them listen to the experts who give input on their given fields- restaurant owners, the fire dept., the police, business owners, contractors, lawyers, and yes, even SAPOA- when they are deciding how to vote. Just because you are elected to city council doesn't mean you know more about how an organization or industry is run than the people who went to college to learn about it and dedicated their lives to it do. Your job is to listen to what the people (especially the people whose livelihoods depend on your decision) have to say and then vote. You aren't supposed to vote first and listen to the people later. That way you don't screw up. And if you don't screw up Council, you don't have to waste more of our time and money explaining to us why you wasted our time and money in the first place.
anon 2:53pm while they are at it they can get rid of the worthless guy they hired as a fire chief. He is determined to spend just as much money as Hoppes and Gordy.
One more fly in the ointment to go Shanie Shields---------for a better tomorrow! Free thinking people who don't just go along tied to someone else's apron strings--that being Shanie Shields.
WE just had the best change ever.
ReplyDeleteGoodbye weasel, bubba and I guess shanie wont know what to do.
Hold them at the sewage treatment plant.
ReplyDeleteChange #1: No Louise Smith
ReplyDeleteChange #2: No Gary Comegys
Change #3: No Shanie Shields
Change #4: Upon Change #1-3 comes progress in this City!

I think they all need to have a couple drinks first so they can relax and quit being so uptight.

ReplyDeleteThe new council should stop payment, etc. on that unwanted, unneeded FIRE BOAT!
ReplyDeleteCouncil work sessions should be restricted to practical, experinced people. Oops! None of the current crop nor the prospects could attend.
ReplyDelete3:56 If you are qualified - why didn't you run?

I agree, but the top 3 vote getters are democrats.
