Salisbury City Council Helps Federal Government Go Into Deeper Debt

GOD BLESS AMERICA, RIGHT?

You're already on welfare, living in section 8 housing, collecting food stamps and even though the Federal Government is looking at the threat of a shut down, (partially caused by the City of Salisbury) I know, let's go order a $1,000,000.00 Fire Boat.

Its wet pants liberals like Mayor Jim Ireton who feel things like this are FREE and IF we don't take advantage of it first, someone else will. Why democrats are still in ANY Office is beyond me.

They say municipal elections are non partisan politics and to me that too is simply a load of crap. Mind you,  there are some democrats like Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen who are fiscally responsible but it only takes a select few like Ireton and others to screw this Country so deep into debt we'll never get out of it.

Oh, don't get me wrong. There are some republicans, (or so they claim) out there like Louise Smith who are nothing short of puppets on a string for the establishment of special interests. We, as Americans, need to look at other events happening around the World and force our so called elected officials to act/vote accordingly.

This community overwhelmingly rejected even the thought of such a Fire Boat. Should we put ALL items like this up for referendum? I mean, look back at the Health Care Bill. Town Hall Meetings were held all over the state and we the people said NO. Our own government is NOT listening. We're going broke and we're passing the debt off to our children and even gandchildren.

Salisbury does not need a Fire Boat. Ireton needs to go and YOU need to get out and vote today!

  2. Well we needed a ladder and SU helped pay for it. Why don't gas companies help pay for boat? Since insurance requires it and they are only ones in US making profits.

  4. The simplicity of the opinions expressed on the topic of expenditures is appalling.
Wake up to reality. It's 2011 not 1951.

  5. I was actually yelling at the tv last night watching them get us so deep in debt. And Ireton is just one pompous donkey. Another one that needs to go is that Oland woman (hired by Barrie). This is just going to keep on going if people don't get out and vote today. We need people who will look out for Salisbury; people who will be fiscally responsible, certainly we don't need more of the same like Comegys, Smith, and Shields.

  6. How many local doctors have money invested in the rental industry in Salisbury?

Well, for one, there's a rumor that SPD is getting a spaceship for arial surveillance. If that's true, the proposed SFD Sport-fisher is only fair. I wonder how much cold beer it will hold?

  8. i noticed i was the only one at the meeting to call the council down for their actions. the council is out of control and so is barrie ireton. i have been telling them since last spring they dont need it and showed them the reasons why, to no avail. they not only dont listen but most of them dont care. i also caught them in another lie monday night concerning resolution 2032. according the agenda the fire companies donated terminals to the city for something. the council immediately allocated $44,000 to pay for them. how come people. thanks. sjd

  9. 1. I for one do believe that the the City of SBY needs a fire boat, BUT, I question the idea that the Port of Baltimore CC detachment is not expecting more return on their investment then to have a boat to protect the property along the Wicomico River. I think that this unit must have a great duty to respond to incidents outside of Wicomico County jurisdiction. I think that asset will be a Tier 1 unit with a much larger designated response area extending well into the bay.
    2. I have never owned a boat but I would think that this unit will have to be pulled from the water annual for service such as hull cleaning and painting, and it will take a crane to accomplish that task and rental on units to do that job not counting that actual work will eat up much of that 10,000 annual maintenance.
    3. This is a highly specialized piece of equipment that will require constant training/drilling to be effective and efficient, not the fire boats of old that the city has used.
    4. If this unit is manned by engine company/ ems crews and is dispatched to a large scale incident in the bay or else where the first week of overtime to cover and back fill those units will break the salary budget.

If my beliefs are true this will be terrible experience for the City of SBY and the FD.
If my beliefs are incorrect please show the proof don't expect me to believe the word of those who have be misled and lied to by those really in the know make the grant agreement public, make any all mutual aid agreements public so every knows the whole story

  11. He's much like Louise. I doubt Jimmy gets much support for another term as mayor and knows this. He doesn't have the stones to get shamed in the next election so like Louise he won't run again.

  12. 2:52 Doctors are not stupid. Check the list of city rentals if you don't believe. They buy in OC

  13. Ok, Ireton has to go since he has not held up his end of the bargain promised if Salisburians voted for him. However, I think the comment "wet pants" is inappropriate since I thought we were going for a higher standard in expressing ourselves. It is enough to state that a person is a liberal or conservative or whatever, we do not need to add the lower level adjectives.
    Just my opinion.

  14. Of course he wants to buy a $1,000,000,00 fire boat. I don't know why anyone is surprised. He said flat out at his state of the city address, "I don't like Tea-Partiers," and "I've spent $7 million in govt. funding and I'm proud of it!" and then took the next 20 minutes to explain why he is going to try to spend not just more, but as much money as possible! If we put aside for a moment, the upsetting fact that our city is run by a man who is dumb enough to yell at the people of the EASTERN SHORE, "I don't like tea-partiers!" we are still faced with the problem that Ireton is unapologetically draining as much of the states resources as he possibly can and isn't making any attempts to help this city generate more internal revenue. He made such a to-do about passing that "business friendly" bill to help local businesses pay their monstrous utilities in a logical way and all I could think was, why do you want a cookie? We should have done this years ago. We are so desperate to move forward common-sensically, that we settle for anything that makes us just a little less backward than we already are. This guy does the bare minimum and then calls it "progress" and I think its absolutely ridiculous. As long as Salisbury keeps putting people in charge who don't care whether the city makes any money, you can expect those same people to keep on spending it. Ireton is going to burn through as much cash as he can whether its available or not, because he don't know where it comes from and at the end of the day, he doesn't really care where its going.
