Woman sentenced to 10 years after confession tossed

Before sentencing a Maryland City woman to 10 years in prison for killing a man who owed her sister a drug debt, a county judge chastised her for attending the victim's funeral.

From his bench in Annapolis on Friday, Circuit Court Judge William C. Mulford II called Latisha Montia Adams' decision 14 months ago to mingle with the family of 22-year-old Jamal Rahshard Medina "one of the lowest things" he had ever heard in his life. He noted that just days earlier - on Dec. 21, 2009 - she stabbed Medina to death outside a west county grocery store.

"It is hard for me to comprehend just how cold and evil it is to show up at the funeral of a man you killed," Mulford said.

He added that unlike Patrice Rashah Dove - Adams' 22-year-old sister, roommate and accomplice in the slaying - Adams appeared to show no remorse.

"It felt like (your sister) cared," Mulford said, recalling Dove's demeanor last month when she was sentenced. "I don't get any sense of that from you."
