After a $14,000,000.00 Fire Palace, millions more in new equipment, a $1,000,000.00 Fire Boat, the sale of the old Fire House and two waterfront lots to boot, a $124,000,000.00 Waste Water Treatment Plant and a list of such expenses for the Salisbury taxpayer that never seems to end, now the City has become a new Boarding House for low income housing.
Let's be real here Folks. The odds of getting the rent paid on time will be so slim it isn't funny. The care for these type of apartments will be next to none, especially where it's located.
However, to commit to a $2,000,000.00 renovation, ($200,000.00 per unit) for a building already standing is just bull crap!
Nevertheless, Gary Comegys, Louise Smith and Shanie Shields want to spend your money while most of them will never be held accountable because they're quitting their jobs and passing everything they couldn't get through before. Interesting how they seem to be Barrie Tilghman's old projects before she quit her job too.
So does anyone out there still want to try to say we're nuts for stating the old Tilghman Administration is still running the City?
We need Council People who knows how to state the facts so that minds can be changed regarding issues such as this. Every Council Person needs replacing.

Can I put this into perspective a little? I have a friend who PURCHASED AND RENOVATED a building downtown for $2.2 million. That building has 4 of the nicest apartments in the Downtown area, two store fronts now occupied by a Deli (who's operator doesn't necessarily maintain it well) and an upscale Sushi restaurant. There is also quite a bit of office space with frontage on the Plaza. All of the units in the building are occupied and bring in a fairly decent rent from what I understand.
ReplyDeleteNow I will not put his name out there, but I'm sure a lot of you know who I am talking about and may have actually been in the building before. The point I'm trying to get across is that if $2.2 million can buy AND renovate that building, then what can $2 million do at the bricks and is it worth it? The Bricks is a similar size to the project that I mentioned Downtown, but it is in a far less desirable location and will be subsidized housing. Why should my tax dollars go to pay for luxury living for those who don't even deserve it?!
I just wanted to put the project into context; I hope you all find it to be just as absurd as I do!
The Bricks is a Tilghman leftover. So are Smith, Comegys, Shields, ohen and Campbell. They all have their roles to play in the melodrama of Salisbury politics.

1:17, you must not pay very close attention. Cohen and Campbell are the only 2 council members that have been elected in years that the public can depend on to do the right thing because it is in the best interest of hte taxpayers. I will stick with representatives who I know vote for practicality and the best interest of the city. The last time that a "clean sweep" was accomplished we got Dunn, Comegys and Cathcart who rubber stamped the Tilghman agenda and have cost the city countless millions in hand outs to developer friends, LLCs and the like. I didn't much care for Campbell and Cohen in the beginning based on what I had heard. Turns out the information was false and they have proved themselves to me with their voting records. Cohen will have my vote again this year.

ReplyDeleteYou must have enough income to afford a single family home. I'm sure, with all the great jobs here, that everyone is as fortunate as you. Low income individuals/families should have no problem finding homes from $60/week utilities included. They probably just choose to live in low income rooms/apts...I'm sure as soon as know a single family home for 750/month is available they will jump all over it. Hell if they can't make the rent they can just get subsidies, right? 11:13 nailed it. Council is acting in favor of the small group of people that voted. Council isn't the voice of our City anymore. That crap hole will be a crap hole again within 5 years of it's renovation. Not because it's apartments or rooms but because of the people that live in them. And what do legally converted buildings divert back to if they were commercial bldgs and never single families? Would commercial space be available on east church street again? If so, I may start buying some apts there.Ask yourself this....what on church st,booth st, etc really bothers you? Multiple mail boxes on a bldg or something else?

Hey they have been doing this crap for long time in the historic district, now the belly aching? However there they would by apts and then convert it to a nice single family. Of course they always lost a fortune on it but hey what's govt always good for? Just that. They bought that crap hole for 60k across from the Jewish church there on Camden just because they didnt want the owner to keep it as apts. Owner paid less than 30k. City has no business in residential ownership. They should only own property that houses govt activities.

8:08, yes we do pay for the bldg and provide the rent. Not sure about impact fees. Already tapped in so prob no.

ReplyDeleteDoesn't Tilghman own a property in the immediate area. I understand these units will be rented to families waiting for their Habit for Humanity Home. But who in their right mind would want to live near the old 600 Railroad Ave. boarding home and all of its constant calls for service, nothing but drugs, crime, and prostitution - and we want to expose children to that! Even Neighborhood Services wants out of that immediate area, and as far as I can see the SFD office next door seems defunct and abandoned.
