Well, since all we have here on the shore is a 10 mile an hour freight train, the only effect such a thing would have on us would be higher taxes without representation. If travellers want a high speed rail system to get from point B to point A, then let points B&A pay for it.
I'm sure that the current Amtrac customers who now travel those routes at "mid speed" are currently the ones who are pouring those huge profits into Amtrac so they can upgrade to the higher speeds.
Oh, wait a minute...did I hear somebody say that passenger railways have been operating at a loss for years and can't fill the trains they now run?
Great point Gary. You see Folks, this is why I went to registered comments only. We may have less comments but at least they make more sense and help add to our LOCAL thoughts and ideas.
About 20 years ago, I wrote to MD congressmen and Delaware as well trying to get the trains to come down as far as Harrington. I even contacted Amtak at that time. I had letters back from Barbara M and Sarbanes, but nothing ever happened. Now today, 20 years later, there are so many people that have moved from CT, Mass and New Jersey and retired here with family in the north, it certainly would pay for the trains to come at least to Harrington. We know the tracks are safe that far as they have run trains from Wilmington to Harrington in the summer for the State Fair. I go to NYC quite often and drive to Wilmington and take the train in. Maybe you can give me a source to contact that will listen!!! Oh, yes, I get it.... Joe and Obama right? Thanks for letting me vent.....

I think not.

ReplyDeleteAmericans can't afford to travel on the rail that's there now. Too expensive. Maybe lowering the price would get more ridership.
