SB 316 - Property Tax - Charter Counties - Education Funding - Senator Madaleno

This bill allows a county council in a charter county to set a property tax rate that is higher than the rate authorized under the county’s charter or collect more property tax revenues than the revenues authorized under the charter in order to fully fund the approved budget of the county Board of Education. Charter counties in Maryland include: Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Dorchester, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's, Talbot and Wicomico. Cecil County will have Charter government in 2012.
