Everybody that complains had plenty of opportunity to speak up during public comment time last year when the calendar was approved.
The BOE has done this for years because of the transition between the 1st and 2nd semester. It allows high schools to prepare for new classes, schedules, etc. For elementary, 1 day is to work on report cards and the other day is for staff development.
Get over it...has been on the calendar for months.
Dearest 4:12, The children attend classes 180 days, no matter how many professional days are mandated by the STATE of Maryland. FYI- Year-round-school doesn't add to that 180 days, there are just larger breaks in between the 180 school days. It's not rocket science (but I doubt you know anything about rocket science, or you know as much about rocket science as you do about the education profession).
1:44 PM- Teachers work both days! No surprise you're the kind of person who judges before knowing ALL of the facts (like the fact that it says "schools closed for all students, central office opened") WOW. You're a gem. No wonder there are so many problems in school, with students acting the way they do...they get it from adults like you, no respect. None.
This is totally ridiculous!! If these days are needed (and I question that) why in the world wouldn't they have been Tuesday and Wednesday of this week to coordinate with MLS birthday holiday? The savings in fuel for keeping the schools closed for 5 days instead of three might make more sense.
9:26.....Ummmmm, just think about what you've said for a minute please.
...Ok....now, please tell me how much more "fuel would be saved" by having the schools closed on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week instead of Monday and Tuesday of the coming week. No matter what, schools are still closed the same amount of days. Talk about "totally ridiculous"!!
It's a shame that this is during the winter...it would make for a nice 4 day weekend at the beach for teachers!
ReplyDeleteWhy can't they have those meetings during the summer?! Or after school?
ReplyDeleteGet too much time off during school year!!!!!!!
