  5. Well, once my boy is older we will read children's books about civil rights and MLK. He is not even 1 yet, though!

  6. Relaxing and preparing to go back to work tomorrow.

  7. Sitting round, doing nothing. No mail so I won't get my check until tomorrow.

  8. The same way I "celebrate" any other day. Got up, came to work, I'll go to the 2nd job later, then go home and go to bed. It's just another day.

  9. Apparently, the local school system "celebrates" this day by giving all the kiddies the day off. Not much of a chance to learn anything significant about Dr. King and his life/death here ...

With the kids off, our work schedule is affected, since one of my employees now has to stay home to baby-sit his rugrats.

So I end up in the office working on taxes of all things!

  10. Thinking of how much I much I need the double-time I am earning by working today......

  11. Working at my family owned business as usual. There isn't anyone else paying my bills, but my husband and myself.

  12. By going to work and putting in a few extra hours to try to make ends meet.

  13. 12:20 - it must have been a LONG time since you were in school, considering the whole month is spent learing about Martin Luthur King.

  15. I always give some thought on the holiday to what Dr King said--
I'm still wondering if the people he was talking to will ever get the point.
".. not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.."

I graduated four years ago and I still remember in 10th grade history class learning about MLK and "black history" for about three or four months... We had a black teacher too, I'm sure that was just a coincidence.

I still think we should do away with MLK day, all it does in my opinion, is keep racism going every year. We've gone so far to make sure everyone has "equal rights", that now blacks have MORE rights then the common man. Thats just my 2 cents.

We get about 45 min of MLK ed in my kids school if they are on time and not behind with other studies.
Black history month is next month. Even in February the theme is not all about black history as it is the beginning of crunch time for those all important MSA's.
Maybe the studies change in middle and high school tho.

We discussed MLK over breakfast this morning, and touch on some important issues. There is much more to him than having a dream.

  22. Nothing special...just another day to me.

  23. So much hatred in the community. I wish we would all live as Dr King lived.

  24. Watching The Cosby Show

  25. We all need positive role models in our lives, Dr Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the few that the African American people are taught about in our school system. Why can't we at least have that without alot of drama? Black History month is not what it used to be when I was in school, the media barely mentions it. I did get tired of the commercials being on so frequent but I did learn from the information. No one should be denied learning their history.

  26. I am white , and most would consider me racist. However, I think Mr. King was a great and wonderful man. He was a pillar to the church and a boom to the country , he was also a paragon of virture. I would have voted for him had he ran for president.
I'm have some good times relaxing with my wife.

"My Father and other men and women have givin you your rights"

Last I checked, my rights were inalienable rights gifted by the Lord Almighty. Also check your history. Blacks have been fighting and dying alongside whites in this country and abroad since the Revolution, even though they still were under oppression for most of this time.

Happy MLK day to ALL of America. Dr. King's sacrifice helped make the US the beacon of freedom that she is today!

  28. "We all need positive role models in our lives, Dr Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the few that the African American people are taught about in our school system.."

Right there is part of the problem, 4:05. Bless your heart.
You all have been suckered into thinking you need a role model that LOOKS LIKE YOU.
And the left keeps perpetuating that myth to keep you subservient.
".. not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.."
Choose your role models by who they are and what they are, not by the color of their skin.
The thing that is holding you back is the idea that you won't make it without help. It's a lie. Told by people who NEED to keep you down so they will still have a job pretending to help you.
You're every bit as good as me or anybody else.
Rise and shine! You don't need ANYBODY'S permission!

Glad I don't work for a jerk like you. But then, I never would. You can't be a business owner. Hard to belive anyone would tolerate your sucky attitude very long

  30. 4:32, I would agree with much of what you say about MLK except the "paragon of virtue" part. The evidence is quite clear that Mr. King had extra-marital affairs, so a "paragon of virtue" he was not. He did, however, do so much to try to bring the races together that we honor him.

    Another jerk heard from.

I am working so the ones who don't want to will get their check

NO you are not. Get over yourself. You're not as important as you wish you were.

(Send myself and the rest of the working class people who do a Thank You note!)

Why? Don't you get a paycheck at the end of the workweek?

    Get a job!

Where? Cleaning toilets like you? I bet there are no openings there either.

Quit crying about your rights!! I have rights too!!

What an asinine statement. I hope you are young so you can have a lame excuse for being so stupid.

My Father and other men and women have givin you your rights!!!!!!

NO, you did not and neither did anyone else on this planet give ANYONE any rights. Read the constitution instead of the comics some day.

I am ALL about Veterans day!!!! Thank You to our vets and men and women in the Arm Forces!!!!

First, it's ARMED but I have since concluded you are just to dumb to know any better. And shouldn't you mention the ones who DIED so you could have your worthless opinion?

I will give you money anytime, versus the ones who do not want to work!!!!

Why all the !!! marks? So no one misses how stupid you are? Hint: wanting to work and having work to do is too very different things. Why don't you quit whatever menial job you have and go to school to get a BASIC education and let someone else work who would appreciate it?

God Bless American and our Armed Forces!!

God bless American what? Or do you mean America? And even if God did bless this country, wouldn't that include the armed services?

I know this may seem like a rude and mean response to you but, I meant it to be. I am getting fed up to my eyebrows with people like you.

You people think you know all the answers and everyone's situation. People can be unemployed for a number of reasons. I suspect not wanting to work is one of them but I also suspect it's in the lower percentile.

Grow up, have some compassion, and try to educate yourself. Your mind is clouded with hate and even if you could have a reasonable thought it would be negated by your hate and prejudice.

You seem to be trying to make yourself a better person than the ones you belittle but it simple does not work.

The meek shall inherit the earth but I think you were cut out of the will.

Sorry so long people but guys like this just irks the hell out of me.

  32. I have my own business so will be working while the MLK holiday allows others to take the day off and relax.
Hmmm...something is wrong with this picture!

You own your own business and can't take a day off when you want?

You're right. Something is wrong with that picture.

  34. 10:26 that's probably because HE has a job.

  35. Many may not realize that MLK was a republican, working for equality not for what so many now spout about him. This man was a born again Christian trying to do the right thing. He would probably be spinning in his grave at the way things have gotten so out of hand.
