Salisbury Police Department Press Release - Shooting

On January 5, 2011 at approximately 12:08 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the four hundred (400) block of Newton Terrace for the report of shots fired. During the response to the area, the officers received further information that a victim of the shooting was at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Officers that arrived at Newton Terrace found that a taxi cab had been damaged during the shooting and was left unoccupied. Officers responded to the hospital and met with the victim, an adult male cab driver. The victim advised the officers that he had picked up two (2) subjects for a cab transport to the area of Newton Terrace. Upon arrival, one of the suspects exited the cab then produced a handgun and fired the handgun striking the victim. The second suspect exited the vehicle then fled from the area, with the first suspect, on foot. The victim called for assistance on his cb radio and was transported to the hospital by another cab driver. A k-9 track for the suspects was attempted with the assistance of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department with negative results. The victim was admitted to the hospital in stable condition with non life threatening injuries. The suspects were described as:

Suspect # 1: Black male, light complexion, 18-19 years of age, medium height and medium weight.

Suspect # 2: Black male, dark complexion, 18-19 years of age.

This investigation is continuing and the Salisbury Police are asking anyone that may have information concerning this incident to call the Salisbury Police Department at 410-548-3165 or to call Crime Solvers. Information may be left at both locations anonymously.

  4. 8:08... last I knew the police officers responding to the scene get the description from the witnesses and victims! Don't blame them for the crappy descriptions.

  5. 8:12 I was thinking the same thing... there is more to this story, and the vague discription the victim gave says a lot.

8:08... the best action you can take is to be more aware of your surroundings. Maybe then a good description can be given. How can the police find these suspects off of such a vague description!

I don't think he was referring to a crappy description. I think he was talking about the description itself. As in black males.

You wannabe detectives can't even read between the lines. Then because the driver wasn't robbed you wanna speculate it was something else.

You may be right. It could be gang initiation, could be they just wanted to 'rob' him of a cab ride, could be he just felt like shooting somebody, could be he was a diabetic and sugar was low making him feel irritable.

Whatever the reason, someone was shot. I think we need to know WHO more than we need to know WHY. But that's just my opinion.

  7. Guys and gals maybe the police do have a better description but they don't want to spook the guys?! Or maybe the cab driver is scared to give more details because he is going to be out there picking up total random people again and doesnt want the guys to kill him the next time around?!

Everyone sure is starting with nasty attitudes this year! I hope it is like the weather, comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb because some of y'all sure are negative!

  8. Joe can you bring us up to speed on what happened at Wi-Hi today. Police everywhere, fights everywhere, phone messages left for parents regarding gang activity in school- what is going on and no one is reporting on this? Thought there would be something on the news tonight, but as usual nothing.

  10. My suggestions are for police to go under cover as cab drivers, pizza delivery drivers, bank tellers, convenience store clerks, homeless people, etc. since that where all the crime is happening. It would be much more effective for them to be in the middle of a crime and stop it than to just ride around patrolling or responding to crime scenes after they happen.
Someone on another website suggested activating our local national guard and have them armed and patrolling some of the streets. I think that is what we need for awhile to take back our city until things can get under control. Even a curfew.

  13. A friend of mine suggested Salisbury Police and Sheriff's dept team up. May be more effective. If you can't beat them, join them! Sheriff Mike Lewis is a true leader and has offered his assistance in the past.

  17. Dosnt matter what color or age ..Salisbury has to be one of the biggest crime scenes ever..What is happening to our Hometown...Get these thugs outta here,,We had a beautiful town at one time..Now we are overrun by thugs , druggies and lazy biotches who choose to live off the system,,thats why we got this mess..Social service handing out food stamps and cash assistance hand over fist..Gives these thugs time to sit home and drum up this kind of crime..Starve these jerks make them have to work...If they got to work to survive they wont have time to do the crime..Clean up the streets..If they are on the streets without good cause ...lock em up...If all else fails start shooting these thugs..We gotta get our town back....

  22. It was a Baileys Taxi driver and it was another Baileys taxi driver that picked him up to take him to the hospital. Why didnt he call emergency services after being shot 3 times? (and yes it was 3 times). My first call would have been to god, then 911.

  23. Baileys?I have heard things about their REAL jobs...that they are "runners",or used to be anyways.
I am so glad I kissed Thugberry goodbye.Every single neighborhood has been invaded by Section 8 and with that comes the thugs and scumbags.Sorry if the truth hurts but it doesnt matter if the people are black or white,if its subsidized housing, theres trouble. And most of the slumlord properties are government goodies because they get more from HUD than decent people can afford to pay.
