Delmar- The Delaware State Police investigated a two vehicle crash in which five people were injured late Friday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:45 p.m. last night as Amber M. Bennett, 16, of Delmar, DE was operating a 2006 Pontiac G6 and was traveling in an eastbound direction on CR 64 attempting to cross US Rt. 13. After crossing into the median, Bennett failed to stop at a stop sign and entered into the northbound lanes of Rt. 13 where her vehicle was struck by a 2011 Ford F-150 pick up truck that was being operated by Christopher Moorefield, 24, of Delmar, DE. After the collision, Moorefield’s truck traveled off of the roadway and overturned. Bennett’s vehicle continued traveling in a northeast direction into a ditch where it came to rest.

Christopher Moorefield, Amber Bennett, and two passengers in Bennett’s vehicle were all transported from the scene by EMS to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where they were treated for various non life threatening injuries. A third passenger in Bennett’s vehicle, a 16 year old Delmar female, was flown by helicopter to the Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE where she was treated for head injuries. Her condition is unknown at this time.

Amber Bennett was arrested and charged with Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, and No Proof of Insurance. She was issued a summons and released. The roadway was closed for approximately one hour as the crash was investigated and cleared.

I hope her underage drinking was worth it all. Maybe she will realize that she is a dumb-arse and sober up before she kills herself or someone else if she hasn't killed her friend already.

  2. So sad and yet, we see on TV every day where someone is arrested for their 5 or 6th DWI or DUI. Obviously Delaware is not very good about that. Maybe MADD needs to step up their work in DE.

Do you think the police charged her with DUI on a whim?

  9. What's his name - did you even read the report? It says right in it that the 16 year old was arrested for DUI! Maybe you should read before spouting off at someone else!

  12. In Delaware How much driving experience do you have to have before you are allowed to carry other passengers that are not family. 16 years old drinking & driving, 3 other passengers in the car and that man is out a brand new truck...Yes I know trucks are replaceable and lives are not but that still hurts...

  13. It is to bad that kids at this age think that they are indestructable, but it's a fact that most do and so did we. It doesnt take away the tragedy of what happened by any means or make it ok. I personally know the family of the girl who was flown to Christiana Hospital and I'm praying so hard for them. Please don't be so quick to pass judgement. Everyone is paying the price for what happened. It was so unnecessary and shouldn't have happened but did. My heart and prayers go out to all involved.

  14. She got a summons? She should be sitting behind bars at a juvenile facility! Slap her on the wrist and all she is learning is how easy it is to manipulate the system and will do it again! Hopefully the passangers learned to never get in a vehicle with a person that has been drinking.

  15. Kids make mistakes; sadly, some of the mistakes are devastating. It shouldn't change our hopes and prayers for those involved and their families.

  16. Im wondering how people can report that a teen was driving under the influence when her blood alcohol test came back as nondetectable for alcohol. The State Police stated they smelled alcohol at the scene. They then charged her with a DUI without waiting for the results from the hospital. She was not arrested and released on a summons. Get the facts straight.
    Parent of minor involved.

  17. well realistically her parents surely knew it was New Years Eve and that she'd be drinking, and they should have said we will drive you, you will not drive. but they may be like most parents with their heads in the sand saying their kids don't do that. Just dumb, open your eyes, you wanna know what your kids are doing stalk them on facebook. at least you have that advantage now, when my kids were young we didn't have that ability. Wake up people.

  18. Everyone needs to stop being so judgemental. If you don't know what happen in the acciden, mind your own business. The girls already feel bad that they could've lost there best friend and yes it was stupid, but i'm sure a leason was learned. Stop being so harsh. If it was your child you wouldn't be posting these things and really wouldn't appreciate everyone being so mean. Mind your own business unless you know what for sure happen.

  19. I hope each of you who automatically attacked this girl because of what the police report said knows now that police are not perfect. They make mistakes also. In this case this officier made a mistake which the hospital proved. I hope the parents take action. Yes, the girl made a mistake but it wasn't due to drinking.

Must be nice to never make a mistake at that age as each of you. I know, speaking for myself at the age of 16 I had an accident due to speeding. Thank God my friend who was with me wasn't injured in any way. Due to a high rate of speed on a back road, I avoided hitting a dog that had run out into the road from a field. Instead of hitting the dog, I hit everything else, jumped a ditch finally landing in a field. Yes, I learned a lesson six weeks after getting my license.

I think taking Drivers Ed out of school was the worse thing the Board of Ed ever did. There are many families who can not afford the driving classes. Has there been a report to show accidents from teens befor Drivers Ed was removed compared to today? Just wondering if things are better now or if this should of stayed in school.

  20. I am good friends with both amber and the girl who was flown to christianna. the hospital found no alcohol in ambers blood, the police simply smelled the alcohol so they charged her for it..on a hunch. cops lied? wow. how surprising. but anyways, shes 16 years old. she feels terrible for what happened. im sure everyone has ran a stop sign in their life or didnt see someone coming. so before you start slandering her for her mistakes maybe think about the personal grief and guilt she is going thru right now. she almost lost her best friend in the accident. everyone needs to stop talking about her like shes a piece of trash and the worst person in the world , and start talking about the girl flown to christianna in critical condition. pray for her and her family. thanks.

  21. It's too bad that all of these anonymous people can pass judgement on this situation without even having all the facts. Get a life people and be careful how harshly you judge...

  24. I was there i do know that amber was very upset and worried about her friends and her parents. I have blood on my shirt from this girl because i held her head and neck until the fire dept got there I was inches from her face and i didnt smell alcohol each girl in this car was upset and i hope a pray that the girl in the front seat will be ok. I was the first one to talk with each of these girls to see what there injuries were.Amber was very upset she just wanted her Mom and her friends to be ok so before you get on here and write something thats not true. Remember there parents and these girls because i will remember seeing these girls and hoping that when i went home i cryed for them and prayed to god that they would make it and be ok. Remember you will be parents someday and you will hope you never come upon a scene like this to just walk away and not care what happens to each one of these girls
