During an interview this morning, just minutes after saying that taxes should not be increased, Mr. Pollitt made this statement:
"I wonder how people would feel if we identified a new separate revenue stream so that we can [fund] our roads program… We’ve got to hear from our community [about that]."
Feel free to comment right here with your view – we will pass it on to Mr. Pollitt’s "public information officer."
Mr. Pollitt is going to be in Annapolis this week to testify before the General Assembly about what Wicomico County needs – will that include legislation to allow this special "revenue stream" (i.e., tax)?
And I’ll bet that you thought that the County’s tax revenue cap was ironclad, right!
Sounds like Maryland Municiple League's proposal. The answer is NOOOOOOO!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRick what part of NO do you not understand?
ReplyDeleteHow about we cut the County's PIO (Jim Fineran) and the Director of Administration (Ted Shea) to fund out county roads.
ReplyDeleteWasted Money!
No new TAXES Rick. I guess you did NOT hear us the first time.
ReplyDeleteif the tax was exclusively used to fix the roads of salisbury city and county.. I would be for a small increase.. but only if tightly managed and sunset in very near future
ReplyDeleteI say we all give 1 dollar to the get Rick P. as far away from Wicomico County as possible.
ReplyDeleteI think we should have an additional tax on all acoholic beverages . Make it double what the present tax is. The idiots that drink will still purchase these items and we will have more than enough $$$ to get the roads done.
ReplyDeleteSpeeding tickets should be tripled
and all fines within the county and state should be at least twice the amount. After all , it's the law .
DWI fines should be no less than $10,000 on the first offense.
All crimes should be preceeded with some sort of fine.
Don't they realize, that Wicomico County is the most expensive County to live in on the eastern shore? Piss off dude, I guess you are struggling enough to make ends meet. I know I am with 3 kids!!
ReplyDeleteHell NO!
ReplyDeleteNo!!! Now if someone would check who is responsible for the pothole patched mess on parts of the "new" Beaglin Park Drive. Whatever company is at fault should have to "eat" the cost for re-doing the paving correctly. Seems like a portion of road is falling apart.
ReplyDeleteDon't blame me - I voted for "Mr. O"!
ReplyDelete1:18 p.m.
ReplyDeleteNot with no real competition!
The only reason the election was as close as it was was because many voted for change, not because they were supportive of what's his name. See? We forgot already!
DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!
ReplyDeletehold your breath everyone... Because he has been tying to get a new tax or taxes since he has been in office the first time... Just like the fed's they rather raise taxes than lower spending... and he "Rick" will say we HAVE to raise taxes to pay for the things you want and need and have been asking for...
ReplyDeleteP.S.
You can pass anything you want to the PIO, and I bet you "rick" doesn't even get half of the stuff you want him to have... also he will do what he wants when he wants, so nothing new here....
New revenue stream, revenue enhancement, they can call it what they want. Just don't call it a tax and Marylanders will be happy with it.
ReplyDeleteYou have to admit that "revenue stream" is very clever. Sounds so much nicer than "taxes."
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see what is called for before I take a stand. Novel idea, try it sometime.
ReplyDeleteNO NO NO NO NO get my point
ReplyDeleteJoe:
ReplyDeleteWanna bet the PIO (Fineran) now will be going to Annapolis to make sure Rick does not make any more stupid statements?
Before you all get your shorts in a knot, why don't we find out what he has in mind? Did anyone ask the question at this interview? Is this the whole thing, nothing else about it said? I find that hard to imagine. Is it possible to actually have some information before we pass judgement? You know, those darn facts, that so many of us don't like to hear about when forming our opinions.
ReplyDeleteSweet, Sweet Delaware.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 2:44, I agree. Our roads are paved and maintained.
ReplyDeletethey need to be made to spend the road money they decided not to spend on the roads the past 5 years...
ReplyDeleteand they need the State to pony up for the destruction of Rte 13 by the heavy trucks doing the College Construction
Gail:
ReplyDeleteThe only good tax is a dead tax!
What else do you need to know?
I say bring the hanging tree back to the courtyard, its the only way to make it stop.
ReplyDeletesick of being robbed by people we're supposed to trust....
2:59,When there is something I want that is not in my budget, I look at ways to I might fund it. I am willing to see what something actually costs me and then decide if it's worth it to me to pay for it. You have your opinion; I have mine. I'd like to hear what's actually on the table to consider. If you don't care about facts and real information, that's okay too. I just don't choose to make decisions that way.
ReplyDeleteGail we don't have to wait to see what Rick has in mind. What is wrong with you, don't you know? Slick Rick is all about tax and spend and tax and spend and tax and spend.
ReplyDeleteWatch it, 3:14, didn't you learn anything in these past 10 days? And Joe, why would you post that?
ReplyDeleteThe money never goes where it is supposed to anyhow. So Hell no!
ReplyDeleteI pay enough in Front end alignments i would agree if i thought they would fix the stretch of N. West road between Naylor Mill and Log Cabin. When we called the county they said they wouldn't fix it because it would just become a race way like Log Cabin Road did. lol Typical good ole boy mentality!
You don't have to be a crazy whacked out right wing radical to think that there may be a few politicians who may need some hanging. If you think THAT, then I wonder what you would have said to Thomas Jefferson. Or John Adams. Oh, I know....HEY!! British authorities!! They're over here!! Yeah, right there, in THAt house....Politicians SHOULD fear the citizens....As it is NOW, they fear nothing, not shame, exposure, tax inquiries, nothing. And before you freak out, I'm NOT condoning the shooting of Giffords....so don't put me (or MILLIONS of other Americans) in the "crazy right wing nut case" category. We're just totally fed up with the LONG list of politicians who lie, cheat, and steal their way through the public trough. History is replete with countries whose citizens rejected their politicians (after long suffering abuse) by hanging, shooting, burning, etc.
ReplyDeleteWell lets just do like Delaware does. If you live in MD and work in DE you have to pay a tax to Delaware. Now, lets charge all of the people that do not live in Wicomico county but work here a commuter tax. The 60% or so of the upper end of the work force take the money from the County and do not have to pay anything to help maintain our roads or our facilities. Wake up.
ReplyDeleteGail we are broke and can't stand anymore. Keep raising, more and more people will drive to Del more and more and buy booze to deal with money stress, furiture once every 20 years, clothes and other needs. its a 5% nope wait now 6% savings
ReplyDeleteWe already pay a tax for the roads. Its called a gas tax. It is also the one that O'Malley has robbed from the state
ReplyDeletesome of you had a great idea to use the salaries of Jim and Ted to pay for the needs. They waste our taxes anyway. and nearly everyone else said the same thing....NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOO! Joe please send these to all three idiots so they know we don't want taxes. Maybe we can ask for a re-vote!!
ReplyDeleteJoe, you can't continue to compare a county's roads to the state of delawares. Apples/oranges, money/less money. Just like comparing maryland roads to county roads, again, money vs. no money. I wouldn't have a problem with a small tax to help make up what the state of maryland took from us, but only for the short term until the state starts giving back our highway user revenue. If we want good roads, and snow cleared, how else are we going to have them. Here is a suggestion Joe, modify the question so that it asks if you are not in favor of a tax for roads, how bad of roads are you willing to drive on, or how do you suggest we start funding roads. We can't just have complainers, we need to have some suggestions.
ReplyDeleteOkay, lets say we get rid of the PIO and Shea. That will be maybe 200k. Where are we going to get the other 8 million dollars needed to start getting our roads in shape. 200k wont come close to what it will cost to reconstruct and pave a mile of road. The county has over 700 miles of roads.
ReplyDelete2:52 PM
ReplyDeleteDo you have any idea of what you are talking about? You have me lost.
Vote Republican!
ReplyDeleteThere is no tax that is just here for a little while. Once a tax it stays.... It will always stay... NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO taxes....
ReplyDeleteI think Imclain is in need of some mental health help. Let's not ignore him until it's too late. Can you forward his rantings to the appropriate agencies who might provide some badly needed therapy?
ReplyDeleteCrazy huh.
ReplyDeleteNO & HELL NO what is it you don't understand Rick, tax and spend liberal
ReplyDeleteThis man is determined to get some kind of tax money out of us. He just barely won this election and so remember folks, if he gets this tax thru you voted for him! I guess he doesn't understand that the tax cap is a tax cap . Please Mr Pollitt, go bark up another tree. We already voted and said NO!!!!
ReplyDeleteno.
ReplyDeleteAnd hey 1;39 they have already done those things .
I question, do you ever go out in the real world.
while we are at it how about targeting the Co Health Dept?
ReplyDeletethey have a MAJOR roach infestation in their own building...when the exterminator kills them..the staff in charge of the building leaves them on the floor in the basement ..there were dead bugs there that were there for months..and the haughty rude overpaid building manager..
who thinks she is God's gift..could care less
NO WAY! We are all struggling as it is. If they would make better choices with their spending to begin with, we wouldn't be in this shape.

The "County Health Department" is a state of Maryland agency.
I have a question or 2. The other day I saw Ted Shea driving a county car as well as Rick Pollitt driving a county car which were a Grand Marquis or a Crown Vic. Did the County by Rick Pollitt a new car and allow Ted Shea to continue keep his take home car?
ReplyDeleteHow many other people in the Government Office Building have take home cars? How many department heads and other employees have take home cars in the county?
Well? Where are all the suggestions on how to fix our roads? Just what I thought. A bunch of B.S. irrelevant complainers. Most of you probably don't pay enough taxes to change a lightbulb.
ReplyDeleteJoe, why don't you suggest to your readers to send lettert to Martin O'malley demanding our Highway User Revenue back. Then we wouldn't even be having this discussion. But then again, people are too lazy to even go out and vote, let alone write a letter. Plus it makes it easier for them to just sit in front of their computers and rant on this blog about things they have no clue about. With the timing the comments were coming in, I would guess that it was one or two people sending in most of them.
ReplyDeleteCAR QUESTION ANON 9;02
ReplyDeleteYES POLLITT DID GET A NEW CAR WHEN ELECTED SPECIAL ORDER WITH HEATED SEATS
8:16, boy you sure seem to be in the know. Bet Mr. Pollitt wouldn't appreciate you sending in comments while at work. (all caps?) I don't see anything wrong with the first county executive getting a car. What the heck is he supposed to drive.
ReplyDeleteGetting just what you people voted for. 8:36 how about driving his own car just like everyone else that has to work for a living. Wow that should be unheard of. NOT!
ReplyDelete9:45, Are you saying that everyone that works, their employer makes them drive their own vehicle to conduct business. I think not. I am not defending Pollitt, in fact, I voted against the executive form of government because of costs like these that would be incurred. I guess, under your logic, the UPS people will have to start buying bigger vehicles to deliver their packages, and police officers will have to start equipping their own vehicles with lights and sirens. Alot of you people pick on things in the budget that are really miniscule and think that there is all this "fat". How many years has VOICE had to show the "fat"? If you really look at private sector, you will find that this practice is not that much out of the ordinary. Once again, let's hear some REAL solutions of how to fix our budget problems other than to just say cut the fat.
ReplyDeleteNO! NO! NO! Not until the fat is cut at all levels. We need responsible budgeting and accounting. Tighten those belts.
