Don't Miss Today's "Good Beer Festival" At Pemberton Park

Yesterday was an outstanding day for the "Good Beer Festival" at Pemberton Park. The event continues today from 12:30 to 6:30 PM. There are more than 50 vendors and for twenty-five bucks you can sample, (2 oz. at a time) as many different beers as you'd like.

We will have more on this event tomorrow but if you like beer and a very friendly group of people to enjoy the day with, Pemberton Park is the place to be.

Dems Planted NJ Tea Party Candidate

A New Jersey Republican congressional candidate criticized his Democratic opponent Friday amid mounting evidence that Democratic officials planted a tea party candidate in the race to siphon off conservative votes.

"My opponent, John Adler, represents everything that is wrong with politics in our country today," Republican Jon Runyan said. "I would ask for an apology. But frankly, an apology from someone like Congressman Adler would be so meaningless that it's not worth seeking."

He spoke at a news conference as Adler, a first-term Democratic lawmaker, and his campaign remained mum about a report in the Courier-Post of Cherry Hill in which Democratic operatives speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed what Republicans have believed for months: That tea-party candidate Peter DeStefano was put on the ballot by Democrats.

The operatives said a county Democratic employee is running at least the Web elements of DeStefano's campaign.

Tea party organizations, which have denounced DeStefano since he entered the race in June, called on him Friday to quit. About 50 tea party activists gathered in protest outside a restaurant in Medford where DeStefano had scheduled a fundraiser Friday night.

DeStefano arrived at the fundraiser after the protesters left and told reporters he would remain in the race, but he would not answer specific questions about the newspaper's report, dismissing the allegations as "hearsay."

"I'm an average guy who's running for Congress on the independent ticket," DeStefano said.

One tea party group, the West Jersey Tea Party, said it plans to file a voter-fraud lawsuit against Adler next week.

Adler has previously denied the accusations. Adler and top officials in Adler's campaign and did not return calls or e-mails from The Associated Press on Friday.

In an August interview with the AP, DeStefano excoriated both Adler and Runyan.

He fended off questions about Republicans' accusations and tea party organizations' claims that he wasn't even a member, though he was running for Congress with the slogan "New Jersey Tea Party." While there are several tea party groups in New Jersey, none goes by that name. Some tea party groups are supporting Runyan.

"Any American citizen can run for any office they want," DeStefano said. "I think it's time we get past this crap."

He refused to answer questions about precisely when he decided to run.

Looking For A Good home For Harley

This is Harley. She is about as big as she will get.  She is a Terrier mix. She has all of her shots but one, and I will take care of that. She is spayed and microchipped. Because I am moving, I can't take her with me. I adopted her from the Humane Society in May of this year and hoped we would have a wonderful life together. She is a bundle of energy and needs a yard to run in. I will be totally honest. We live in a small apartment and when she plays, she plays rough but that may be because she is so excited when I come home from work, she wants to run, jump, lick and will give mini bites to your hands while you are greeting her. She is a quick learner and will sit on command for a treat and loves to play fetch. I made the mistake of house training her with puppy pads and although she will do her business outside while on a walk, which she loves, she still wants to go on the puppy pad in front of the door most of the time. With someone who has the time and patience, she will be a wonderful pet and friend. I don't want to take her back to the Humane Society.

Please help me find her a loving home.  I can be contacted at   Cawhetzel@verizon.net  The picture is below.

Arab Leaders Tell US: You Have One Month To Pressure Israel

The Arab League decided Friday to give the United States an ultimatum: If U.S. leaders do not pressure Israel into accepting Arab demands within a month, the Palestinian Authority will give up on the next round of negotiations. The PA is demanding that Israel forbid Jews to build in Judea and Samaria, an area that is home to an estimated 350,000 Israelis.

"We are giving the United States an opportunity to convince Israel to stop settlements. We are giving them a month which will be a period of political interaction between the United States and Israel," a PA spokesman told reporters.

Currently, Jews living in Judea and Samaria are only allowed to build within the city limits of existing Israeli communities, and only on state land. However, Abbas has categorically rejected the possibility of any Jewish presence in a future PA state, and says that any construction for Jews is an obstacle to peace - even when no undeveloped land is used.

Before last year, PA leaders, including Abbas, and the Arab League had given the go-ahead to direct talks with Israel even while Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria was ongoing. Abbas' about-face on the issue has led some to argue that the PA chairman is deliberately undermining talks in order to demand the unilateral establishment of a PA Arab state.

In fact, Abbas told the Arab League that he is considering the unilateral creation of a PA state in Judea, Samaria, and Jerusalem, on all land outside of the 1949 armistice line. Abbas said he would seek U.S. approval for the move if negotiations with Israel come to a halt.

Distrust Of U.S. Media Edges Up To Record High

For the fourth straight year, the majority of Americans say they have little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly. The 57 percent who now say this is a record high by one percentage point.

The 43 percent of Americans who, in Gallup’s annual Governance poll, conducted Sept. 13-16, 2010, express a great deal or fair amount of trust ties the record low, and is far worse than three prior Gallup readings on this measure from the 1970s.

Trust in the media is now slightly higher than the record-low trust in the legislative branch but lower than trust in the executive and judicial branches of government, even though trust in all three branches is down sharply this year. These findings also further confirm a separate Gallup poll that found little confidence in newspapers and television specifically.

Nearly half of Americans (48 percent) say the media are too liberal, tying the high end of the narrow 44 percent to 48 percent range recorded over the past decade. One-third say the media are just about right while 15 percent say they are too conservative. Overall, perceptions of bias have remained quite steady over this tumultuous period of change for the media, marked by the growth of cable and Internet news sources. Americans’ views now are, in fact, identical to those in 2004, despite the many changes in the industry since then.

Democrats and liberals remain far more likely than other political and ideological groups to trust the media and to perceive no bias.

O'Donnell Wants Foreign Relations Seat

Delaware Republican Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell said Friday she “would love” to be on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee if elected in November.

O’Donnell referenced her desire to join the panel while answering a series of questions from Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren about her policy positions regarding Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

When asked by Van Susteren about the belief held by those such as former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton that Iran will reach nuclear weapons capability, O’Donnell responded, “You know, I don’t know. I don’t have access to the intelligence information that would help make that decision.”

“Perhaps as a U.S. Senator sitting on the Foreign Relations Committee, I will,” she added. “That’s what … I would love that.”

She said there are also those who think Iran is “making threats that aren’t backed up.” She referenced the foreign policy of former President Ronald Reagan. “His foreign policy was summed up in four words – We win, they lose,” she said. “And he did that by not backing down, by not compromising, by strengthening our military and making it once again that the threat of military action, U.S. military action, had some teeth to it. Right now, it doesn’t, and that’s tragic.”

O’Donnell said the key to dealing with Iran is improving relations with Israel. “I don’t believe that this administration has been as friendly and supportive to Israel as America could be and as America should be,” she said. President Obama, she said, has “scolded” Israel over the country’s openness to a pre-emptive strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities amid Iranian threats to both Israel and the U.S.

“You don’t scold one of our allies for doing what they need to do in their own national interest,” O’Donnell said.

GOP Seizes On Bright Comments To Pressure Democrats On Pelosi

A conservative House Democrat’s statement that he won’t support Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for another term is ramping up pressure on other vulnerable incumbents who have been dodging the question.

Republicans have seized on the comments by freshman Rep. Bobby Bright (D-Ala.), who told a local television station on Thursday that neither Pelosi nor House Republican leader John Boehner (Ohio) would get his vote in January. While the defection is the first by an incumbent Democrat, it could complicate Pelosi’s bid to keep the Speaker’s gavel if her party retains a slim majority in the House after Election Day.
“It certainly puts pressure on other Democrats to follow suit,” said Andy Sere, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee. “Their excuse kind of evaporates when one of their colleagues takes the ball and runs with it.”

Sere added that Republicans aren’t letting Bright off the hook. “We don’t trust Bobby Bright to remain true to his word,” he said.

DAILY TIMES FAILS TO TELL ALL ABOUT WICOMICO "AT-LARGE" CANDIDATES

In an article today, the Daily Times discusses the four candidates for the 2 "At-Large" seats on the Wicomico County Council, namely:
Republicans – Bob Culver and Matt Holloway
Democrats – David Cowall and Edward Taylor

The article states that both Republican candidates favor keeping the County’s tax revenue cap and preserving farmers’ rights against confiscation by "downzoning". But there is no mention of the position of either of the Democrats on those major issues in this year’s election.

In fact, both Cowall and Taylor have stated in public that they favor change or outright repeal of the tax cap! Did the Daily Times fail to ask them about that or farmers’ rights, or did it decide not to report their views?

Rally Video With President Obama

Dear Joe,

In case you missed yesterday's rally with President Obama, we wanted to share some highlights from this exciting event.

Click here to watch President Obama and members of Team Maryland fire up over 7,000 supporters at this outdoor afternoon rally.

The President gave a strong speech laying out the choice we face this year between moving forward with Governor O'Malley and Lt. Governor Brown and slipping back to the failed policies of the past.

It's hard to believe, but we have just 25 days until this crucial election to move Maryland forward.
25 days to grow our economy.

25 days to better schools and more affordable college.

And 25 days to secure a better future for families across our great state.

Watch the video here.

With your help, Maryland can take another step forward. But we need you--and the President needs you--to knock on doors, call your neighbors, and help spread the word about this important election.

Sincerely,

Tom Russell

NEW O'MALLEY-BROWN WEB AD FEATURES MEDIA CRITICISM OF EHRLICH'S "FALSE" AND "DISHONEST" ATTACKS

Ehrlich Getting Desperate As He Slips in Polls

Baltimore, MD -- The O'Malley-Brown campaign today released a new web ad featuring independent media outlets calling Bob Ehrlich's negative attacks "false," "dishonest," and "total malarkey."

The ad, "Desperate,"
can be viewed here.

Ehrlich launched negative ads this week in the Washington, D.C. market, capping off a series of since-discredited attacks on economic reports and higher education that have been debunked by independent fact checks.

"Bob Ehrlich's will do anything to change the subject from his failed record, including misleading voters with false attacks that have been discredited by independent media organizations," said Tom Russell, O'Malley-Brown Campaign Manager.

"We know that Bob Ehrlich is getting more and more desperate every day as he slips in the polls, but that doesn't give Ehrlich the right to intentionally mislead voters," added Russell.

Chairman Scott Statement On Obama's MD Unemployment Address

ANNAPOLIS – Maryland Republican Party Chairman Audrey Scott released the following statement in response to President Obama’s unemployment address in Bladensburg, Maryland:

“Today’s abysmal unemployment numbers confirm what we already knew, the economic policies of this White House and the O’Malley Administration have failed. They are taking America and Maryland in the wrong direction, and it’s time to stop the reckless fiscal mismanagement and out-of-control growth of government that’s putting us deeper into debt. Maryland’s continued record unemployment makes it clear that higher taxes, and massive budget deficits are only increasing the economic uncertainty that is stifling job growth.

“The fact that the White House and the O’Malley Administration continue to treat high unemployment and massive debt as a political problem, instead of an economic problem, reflects a mind-set that is out-of-touch with the hundreds of thousands of unemployed Marylanders.  It’s clear that this Administration has lost grip on the reality of their policies, and these latest jobs numbers are the final verdict on Obama and O’Malley’s failed economic agenda.

“Sadly, it appears Maryland’s September unemployment situation will reflect these dismal national numbers.  O’Malley needs to come clean with Marylanders about the State’s unemployment situation later this month and avoid any repeats of the July jobs cover-up.”

Missing Goat UPDATE: "The goat is HOME!"

My daughter's little boer kid has apparently wandered off our farm on Riverside Drive Extended, near Sanborn Terrace and Old Mill Branch Road.

My daughter has looked for the goat all day without success.

She has raised this goat from birth; its mother died kidding. She named it Cossette after the little orphan girl in Les Miserables.

My daughter kept the goat inside in an old porta-crib and bottle-fed it until it was strong enough and the weather warm enough for it to go outside.

The goat has a nice shelter and pen and fenced pasture, but it also likes to graze near the house and my daughter frequently lets it out. It has never before left our property.

If any of your readers have seen it, please contact us.

Thank you.

Jeanne Gaetano

We have just received a very solid lead on the goat and hope to be able to bring it home tomorrow morning.
I will let you know as soon as we have brought her back.

Thank you for your help!
Jeanne

The goat is home.

She was so glad to see my daughter.

Thank yo so much for your help. The call came last night only a few hours after you posted.

I will try to send a photo later today.

Gratefully,

Jeanne
