This Is NYC On Madison Ave In New York City

I wonder what would happen if Christians blocked the streets of New York every Sunday for an hour or two?????

A Christian Nation cannot put up a Christmas scene of the baby Jesus in a public place, but the Muslims can stop normal traffic every Friday afternoon by worshiping in the streets... Something is happening in America that is reminiscent of what is happening in Europe. This is Political Correctness gone crazy...

This is an accurate picture once a year on a Friday afternoon in several locations
throughout NYC where there are mosques with a large number of Muslims that cannot fit into the mosque - They fill the surrounding streets, facing east for a couple of hours between about 2 & 4 p.m. - Besides this one at 42nd St & Madison Ave, there is another, even larger group, at 94th St & 3rd Ave, etc., etc. - Also, I presume, you are aware of the dispute over building another "high rise" Mosque a few blocks from "ground zero" - With regard to that one, the "Imam" refuses to disclose where the $110 million dollars to build it is coming from and there is a lawsuit filed to force disclosure of that information - Just some facts FYI - But then, you have your own troubles with the "immigration" problem and the new AZ law -

November can't come soon enough.

This is in New York City on Madison Avenue, not in France or the Middle East or Yemen or Kenya.

POLLITT’S PICKS FOR THE PLANNING COMMISSION -- UPDATE

Last night’s meeting of the Wicomico County Council had moments that should appear on a “most memorable” reprise of the current body. Discussion of two persons that Rick Pollitt recently recommended for membership on the Planning Commission ignited real fireworks.

One of Pollitt’s nominees – Dwayne Lockman, who trades as the “Rajun Cajun” – had withdrawn after facts about him surfaced, including legal suits in Wicomico County as well as a foreclosure in North Carolina, where he claimed to be a successful developer.

That outcome has obviously angered Sheree Sample-Hughes, who stated her objection to the investigation and presentation of factual information about Mr. Pollitt’s nominees, calling it a personal attack. But Gail Bartkovich set her straight by pointing out that the Council’s job is to do the right thing, not to blindly do what Pollitt wants. Because the County Executive’s staff did not do a proper background check, it is fortunate that someone did.

Pollitt’s other nominee, Jacob Day, was the subject of a last minute effort by Bill McCain – whose days on the Council are numbered – to have that nominee confirmed by the Council. But that ship landed on the rocks. Joe Holloway pointed out that the Commission currently has no member from the east side of the County and no member who is a farmer. Mr. Day lives in Salisbury and works for an environmental advocacy group.

It is not surprising that Mr. Day is supported by McCain, who has voted to strip farmers of their development rights along with the other Democrat members of the Council, Mr. MacLeod and Ms. Sample-Hughes.

This blog broke the facts about Mr. Lockman and Mr. Day, so we take some satisfaction in what has happened since then. For an earlier post see:

Wicomico County BOE Bus Drivers Express Frustration To County Council

When you make a $100,000.00 investment to purchase a School Bus and then only get a 1 year contract with the County, what Bank is going to back such a contract/investment? Drivers would like to see a 5 year contract instead.

There are only three weeks left before the school year begins and these bus drivers/owners do NOT have a contract. In fact, John Fredricksen is playing more games with them than these drivers are willing to accept.

T.J. Maloney represented this group last night in yet another emotional and dramatic presentation of just what these drivers are up against. Council President Gail Bartgovich stated she'd make every attempt to hold a meeting with Mr. Fredericksen before Monday to try to straighten out their differences.

I'll allow comments to finish telling the story here because it wouldn't be fair to give off my personal opinion. I expect the comments to skyrocket on this one, so keep your eyes on the comments.

The second is because the name of the vehicle for our lifestyle, a sixty foot brig, is named 'Peregrine'.

Our journey to this point is a combination of a lot of factors. Some of them include a desire to live life and do all the things people usually wait until retirement to do and do them with our children. We enjoy travel and seeing new places. We want to drop out of our consumer driven society and simplify life. We want to raise our children in a less threatening environment and with an appreciation for other peoples and cultures. We desire the time to broaden our horizons, develop our talents, learn new skills and spend time with each other and whatever new friends we make along the way. Finally, and most importantly, is a recognition that by following the nomadic pattern of most of the people in the Bible spiritual development will reach a completely different level.

Steele's Foreign Outreach Effort Angers GOP Leaders

In a bizarre strategy with key midterm elections just three months away, the Republican National Committee is trying to set up meetings between Chairman Michael Steele and foreign ambassadors to the United States – a use of time and money that is exasperating senior Republicans.

An RNC intern sent a message late last month to at least one ambassador on behalf of Neil Alpert, a senior finance aide, according to Politico.

Steele’s outreach to foreign representatives heading into the final stretch of the mid-term election cycle is angering GOP stalwarts already fed up with the controversial chairman’s knack for bad publicity.

“They can’t give any money and they can’t vote,” former RNC Chairman Jim Nicholson told Politico. “I don’t know why you’d take time to do it.”

It is illegal for foreign nationals to contribute to American candidates or political parties.

Justice Department Attempts To Intimidate Sheriff Joe

The Justice Department on Tuesday notified an Arizona sheriff's office known for its efforts against illegal immigrants that it has refused to cooperate with a civil rights investigation, is not in compliance with federal law and the department is threatening to sue.

Since March 2009, the U.S. Justice Department has been investigating Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office in Phoenix for alleged discrimination and for unconstitutional searches and seizures. Arpaio says the inquiry is focused on his immigration efforts.

Robert Driscoll, a Washington lawyer representing Arpaio, said Justice Department lawyers "have picked the man and the department and are trying to find a violation, rather than find a violation and then seeking to vindicate someone's rights."

"They have been investigating for two years," said Driscoll, who added that most people assume it has something with racial profiling.

But Driscoll said, "If it was going on now, presumably they would have evidence of this now."

In a letter, assistant attorney general Thomas Perez, head of the Justice Department's civil rights division, said the sheriff's office is not turning over material that Perez's lawyers are requesting. Over a year ago, Arpaio's lawyers asked that the Justice Department's Office of Professional Responsibility investigate alleged attorney misconduct regarding the investigation. In his letter to Arpaio's lawyers, Perez said such "unfounded allegations" are not a basis for refusing to cooperate with the Justice Department probe.

In June, the office concluded that no civil rights division attorney at the Justice Department committed professional misconduct or exercised poor judgment in the probe of Arpaio's office.

Perez gave the sheriff's office until Aug. 17 to turn over documents first requested last year in what the department calls an inquiry into claims of discrimination based on national origin.

Arpaio and his legal counsel said a year ago that the sheriff's office would not cooperate with the inquiry.

2010 Delmar Little League Girls 9-10 Softball All-Stars

Kneeling L-R: Nakita Prado, Brynn Binkley, Mollie Upole, Madisen Shoemaker, Jakayla Sample, Kayla Hovatter

Standing L-R: Hailey Naugle, Samantha Lehman, Manager B.J. Hughes, Carlie Elliott, Avery

Wheatley, Coach Glen Covington, Kelsie Hughes, Carly Covington, Coach Keith Naugle, Alleigh Townsend

The Delmar 9-10 Girls Softball All-Stars representing Maryland District 8 traveled to Perryville, Maryland on July 17, 2010 to participate in the Maryland State Tournament. This was the first all-star experience for seven of these girls, while six had played on the 2009 all-star team. During our practices the girls were told to not be surprised if they were asked to play several different positions along their journey; all that we coaches asked was that they try their best. The girls indeed were asked to play several different positions while in Perryville, and they did a fantastic job. Thanks to good pitching (36 strikeouts in four games), key defensive plays, and excellent run production (23 runs scored versus 13 runs allowed), Delmar began the tournament 1-0 but fell short of the state title finishing runner-up to Perryville District 5. Delmar’s two losses both came at the hands of Perryville; a 5-4 loss and a 4-3 loss (Delmar had eliminated Perryville in the 2009 tournament). The Delmar girls played their hearts out and were a true representation of what it means to play as a team. Before leaving for their journey, the girls participated in a team building task of filling a small container with some dirt from our home field in Delmar. Once the bottle was filled, the team read a softball player’s prayer. As in past traditions, the team shouted a couple of chants to boost their morale – but what made it different this year was that the team brought along some “Delmar Dirt” to hold or touch when they were chanting. The Town of Delmar can be proud of these girls and how they handled themselves on and off the field. It was truly a pleasurable experience, and I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work with the assistant coaches and with these girls.

Missouri Voters Reject Mandatory Obamacare

Missouri voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly rejected a key provision of President Barack Obama's health care law, sending a clear message of discontent to Washington and Democrats less than 100 days before the midterm elections.

About 71 percent of Missouri voters backed a ballot measure, Proposition C, that would prohibit the government from requiring people to have health insurance or from penalizing them for not having it.

The Missouri law conflicts with a federal requirement that most people have health insurance or face penalties starting in 2014.

Tuesday's vote was seen as largely symbolic because federal law generally trumps state law. But it was also seen as a sign of growing voter disillusionment with federal policies and a show of strength by conservatives and the tea party movement.

"To us, it symbolized everything," said Annette Read, a tea party participant from suburban St. Louis who quit her online retail job to lead a yearlong campaign for the Missouri ballot measure. "The entire frustration in the country ... how our government has misspent, how they haven't listened to the people, this measure in general encompassed all of that."

Missouri's ballot also featured primaries for U.S. Senate, Congress and numerous state legislative seats. But at many polling places, voters said they were most passionate about the health insurance referendum.

"I believe that the general public has been duped about the benefits of the health care proposal," said Mike Sampson of Jefferson City, an independent emergency management contractor, who voted for the proposition. "My guess is federal law will in fact supersede state law, but we need to send a message to the folks in Washington, D.C., that people in the hinterlands are not happy."

Fruitland Maryland National Night Out

This had to be the biggest turn out I have seen so far in Fruitland. I have attended this event in Fruitland for the past several years and its great to see a community come together like this.

IDF Commander Killed On Lebanon Border, US Urges Maximum Restraint

Israel vowed to respond harshly to further Lebanese aggression after a reserve battalion commander was killed on Tuesday and another soldier was seriously wounded in the worst violence along the northern border since the 2006 Second Lebanon War.

Lt.-Col. (res.) Dov Harari, 45, from Netanya, was shot dead by a sniper from the Lebanese Armed Forces, and a company commander from his battalion, Capt. Ezra Lakia, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. By Tuesday evening, Lakia was in stable condition at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.

The violence began around noon, when a force from Harari’s reserve battalion entered an enclave along the border and near Kibbutz Misgav Am to conduct routine maintenance work. Enclaves refer to land that is sovereign Israeli territory but is on the other side of the border fence, which does not always run directly parallel to the internationally recognized border, known as the Blue Line.

The soldiers had coordinated their movement beyond the fence with UNIFIL and were working to cut down a tree when shots were fired in their direction. Lakia was shot in the chest by a Lebanese Army sniper, and Harari was shot in the head.

The IDF responded with heavy tank fire at an Lebanese position just over the border, killing three soldiers and a Lebanese journalist. Lebanese soldiers then fired rocket-propelled grenades at an Israeli tank south of the border.

IDF artillery began pounding the area, and a number of IAF attack helicopters were dispatched to bomb a Lebanese Armed Forces command center in the southern Lebanese town of Taiba. The center was heavily damaged, as were a number of LAF armored personnel carriers parked nearby.

The United States is urging that both Israel and Lebanon exhibit “maximum restraint” to avoid escalating hostilities between the two countries, after Tuesday’s deadly skirmish on the northern border.

US State Department Spokesman PJ Crowley described the Obama administration as “extremely concerned” about Tuesday’s violence along the Israel-Lebanon border zone. He said American officials are in touch with both sides, as well as with the UNIFIL mission there, to ascertain what happened.

OMB Nominee's Change Of Date OK For Bonus

President Obama's nominee to oversee the federal budget is amending his latest government ethics filing after misreporting the date he left his job at Citigroup Inc. - addressing questions about his eligibility for a nearly $1 million bonus weeks after the company was bailed out by taxpayers.

The timing of Jacob Lews departure from the Wall Street heavyweight last year and whether his bonus falls under the $1.6 billion of ill-advised payouts uncovered by former federal pay czar Kenneth Feinberg is likely to be a topic of his pending confirmation hearing by the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. Lawmakers from both parties have called for unsavory bonuses to be returned to federal coffers.

Mr. Lew, a deputy secretary at the Department of State, reported leaving his job as managing director at Citigroup on Jan. 5, 2009, according to a recent ethics filing. Ten days later, Citigroup, propped up by a massive federal bailout, paid Mr. Lew a bonus of $940,000.

Such a timeline, with Mr. Lew getting a bonus after he left the company, could have posed troublesome questions for Citigroup and Mr. Lew, who is Mr. Obama's nominee to replace Peter Orszag atop the White House Office of Management and Budget. Under Citigroup policy, only current employees are entitled to bonuses.

When questioned by The Washington Times about whether Mr. Lew received an exemption from the company's policy, administration officials said Mr. Lew left Citigroup on Jan. 16, 2009 - not 11 days earlier as he recently reported on his ethics form.

Kenneth Baer, a spokesman for the OMB, called the mistake a typographical error and said it is being corrected. He said Mr. Lew has fully disclosed his income to the Senate and to the public. He also said administration officials, while aware of his bonus, are focused on Mr. Lew's two decades of public service, including his work as OMB director for President Clinton.

Blue Dogs At Risk Get Help, $200M

House Democratic leaders have directed tens of millions of dollars in federal funds to the districts of vulnerable incumbents, including many conservative Blue Dogs who typically stress fiscal restraint.

Nearly $200 million worth of earmarks has gone to members of the Blue Dog Coalition — including $150 million in the military construction appropriations bill and over $44 million in the transportation bill.

Republicans and a spending watchdog group criticized the earmarks, saying that self-described budget hawks like the Blue Dogs should shun federal funds specifically set aside for their districts.

Earlier in the year, the Blue Dog Coalition proposed a 2 percent cut in discretionary spending for each of the next three years.

“The earmark system is a symbol of a broken Washington,” said Michael Steel, a spokesman for House Republican Leader John Boehner (Ohio). “Anyone who is serious about fiscal discipline should join House Republicans in freezing earmarks and pushing for real reform.”

Steve Ellis, vice president of Taxpayers for Common Sense, a group that tracks federal spending and compiled the earmarks in a spreadsheet, faulted Blue Dogs for chasing earmarks.

“Fiscal responsibility needs to start at home,” Ellis said. “It is difficult for them to wag the finger with one hand and have the other hand out for millions of dollars’ worth of earmarks. It undercuts your credibility.”

Blue Dogs such as Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-Md.), who is in a toss-up race, argue that the projects help their constituents and do not add to the deficit. They note the funds come from a pot of money already set aside for discretionary spending.

Kratovil, who sponsored the Blue Dog legislation that would cut spending by 2 percent each year, collected four earmarks worth more than $5 million in the two recently passed spending bills.

His spokesman dismissed GOP criticism. “Rep. Kratovil’s Spending Reduction Act would finally require Congress to make tough decisions about which priorities deserve funding and which should be cut,” said spokesman Kevin Lawlor.

“Given our fiscal outlook, he feels we can no longer avoid these tough decisions,” Lawlor added. “He has taken the same approach to the appropriations process, submitting requests only for the projects he believes are the most important priorities for the 1st district.”

Democrats Battle GOP Over Fourteenth Amendment

Senate Democrats pushed back Tuesday against Republican demands to change a part of the 14th Amendment that grants U.S. citizenship by birthright to children of illegal immigrants.

Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and GOP Whip Jon Kyl (Ariz.) have called for hearings on the amendment, while Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has called for elimination of the provision.

The arguing is over the Citizenship Clause to the 14th Amendment, which was adopted in 1868 during the Reconstruction era. The clause was intended to reverse the 1857 Supreme Court decision in the Dred Scott case that denied citizenship to African-Americans. The Supreme Court subsequently interpreted the clause to mean that children born in the United States have an inherent right to citizenship.

Republicans maintained Tuesday that modern times present a much more difficult situation, with immigration stressing the country’s resources and dividing the country.

“I’m supportive of [changing the provision] because at the time the amendment was put in, transportation was different, the environment was different and we didn’t have as much crime,” said Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.). “Just a lot of things were different.”

Democrats say the calls are merely election-year politics that shamefully target children.

“It’s outrageous,” said Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio). “To target children on this makes no sense. It’s the Constitution. It’s what we’ve done our entire lives. It’s all about politics and Republicans trying to gin up their base. It’s one of those distractions that just puzzles me.”

“The Republicans have to decide if they only like one amendment, which is the second,” said Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), referring to the right to bear arms. “I happen to like all of the amendments. They just seem to like only the second one.”

Frank Kratovil – Sign the Discharge Petition

Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-MD) loves to tell his conservative leaning constituents that he’s “independent”.  While voting for the Obama PORKULUS and “Cap and Tax”, Kratovil got scared and voted against ObamaCare.

Well Frank, was it a bad bill or not?  If it was worth voting against, why haven’t you signed the discharge petition to repeal it?  Could it be that your lords and masters in the House Dem leadership gave you a pass on ObamaCare but would punish you if you signed the discharge petition?

No, that couldn’t be it.  Frank’s “INDEPENDENT”.  Frank’s a “Blue Dog”.

Wait!  Could it be that Frank’s blowing smoke up our collective backsides?

Electric Cars Face Bumpy Road To Acceptance

Pricing, range issues could slow sales of Chevy Volt, Nissan Leaf

The Chevrolet Volt has won a presidential endorsement and the support of leading environmental activists. Now it needs consumers' embrace when it comes to market later this year.

General Motors’ new extended-range Volt is just one of many advanced electric vehicles that will charge into showrooms over the next several years. Proponents believe the nascent switch to electric propulsion will be a critical step in reducing the nation’s dependence on foreign oil and toward the goal of reducing global warming.

But skeptics question the viability of vehicles like Volt, citing their high cost and limited range as factors that could minimize demand, especially at a time when gasoline prices are relatively affordable.

The Tea Party's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Night

Moderates rule a series of high-profile primaries

Another Tuesday, another round of Republican primaries pitting self-proclaimed tea-party candidates against their (sometimes slightly, sometimes considerably) more moderate opponents--and yet another sign that the Glenn Beck brigade is a long way from "taking back the country," despite all the hype.

So far, the tea party has been the major political story of the 2010 election cycle, and in many ways it's a fascinating, vibrant reflection of the America's current fixations and frustrations. But given that the vast majority of the movement's favored candidates have lost their Republican primary battles--and given that the few candidates who've won, like Rand Paul and Sharron Angle, seem to be underperforming against vulnerable Democratic opponents--there's little reason to think that it will be a major electoral force anytime soon.

How Honest Are You About Your Weight?

Most Of Medicaid’s $829 Million In “Savings” Comes From Taxes On Insurance Premiums

Most of the state’s estimated $829 million in “savings” on Medicaid spending from federal health care reform comes not from reduced costs, but from taxes on new insurance coverage generated by the new law.

A study by the Hilltop Institute found that the state government would come out $829 million ahead over the next 10 years because the new law would help cover 358,000 uninsured people, and this would produce $576 million in new premium assessments.

“The new revenue is essentially more volume of people,” said Chuck Milligan, executive director of the Hilltop research institute based at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. “It’s not a new tax, it’s just an increase in volume in an existing tax.”

Daily Times Selling Editorial Space to SAPOA?

Yesterday we provided some initial impressions of Salisbury mayor Jim Ireton’s legislative package to control the city’s slumlords.  Today we are treated to a Daily Times piece that reads as much like a SAPOA white paper than objective journalism.

Ireton’s proposal has flaws.  Almost any piece of proposed legislation does.  Ireton needs to sit down with SAPOA to receive their input.  The Daily Times needs to stop acting like the publisher of SAPOA’s monthly newsletter.  Salisbury voters need to carefully examine Ireton’s proposal AND applaud the effort to finally tackle a problem that is getting worse, not better.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT EVENTS ACROSS MARYLAND

GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY, JUDGE KATIE O’MALLEY, LT. GOVERNOR ANTHONY BROWN, MEMBERS OF THE ADMINISTRATION PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL NIGHT OUT EVENTS ACROSS MARYLAND

BALTIMORE, MD
– Governor Martin O’Malley will join Maryland’s First Lady, Judge Katie O’Malley, at several Baltimore-area celebrations of “National Night Out”, while Lt. Governor Brown attends community gatherings in Prince George’s County. Officials from the O’Malley-Brown Administration will participate in similar events throughout Maryland. The Administration will be represented by Cabinet members, staff, and other representatives at nearly 100 events this evening. National Night Out is celebrated nationwide, and includes block parties, cookouts, citizen walks, and other events designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local anticrime programs, and strengthen the partnerships between police and community.

“Together, we’ve driven violent crime and property crime down to their lowest rates ever reported, thanks to the dedication of law enforcement and the cooperation of local communities,” said Governor O’Malley. “National Night Out is both a celebration of our accomplishments, and a recognition that there is still more work to be done. Protecting the public’s safety is among our most solemn obligations as public servants, and these events illustrate that we’re all in this together.”

“While violent crime in Maryland is at a historic low, there is still much work to be done. Protecting our residents and improving public safety remains a top priority for the O’Malley-Brown administration and we will continue to use every resource possible to prevent crime and save lives,” said Lt. Governor Brown. “By strengthening our partnerships with community members, faith groups, advocacy organizations, and county and municipal police departments, we will continue to drive positive change in our neighborhoods.”

Through the innovative use of public safety technology, unprecedented information sharing across borders, and strategic reforming of long-troubled public safety state agencies, law enforcement personnel throughout Maryland have driven crime to historic lows:

· Violent crime at its lowest rate ever reported.
· Homicides at their lowest rate ever reported.
· Robberies at their lowest rate ever reported.
· Aggravated Assaults at their lowest rate since 1976.
· Motor vehicle thefts at their lowest rate ever reported.
· Property crime at its lowest rate ever reported.
· Total crime at its lowest rate ever reported.

The O’Malley-Brown Administration works with state and local criminal justice agencies to develop and implement five, basic yet essential crime control strategies:

Identify high risk offenders, hold them accountable, and improve outcomes for offenders through effective re-entry services.
Enhance warrant service to swiftly remove violent offenders from the streets.
Maximize the use of DNA samples and findings to convict the guilt and exonerate the innocent.
Expand efforts to reduce illegal gun use and possession.
Modernize crime fighting and information sharing by maximizing the use of the best available technology.

Since taking office, Governor O’Malley developed the Violence Prevention Initiative, focusing resources to holding accountable the small group of adult and juvenile offenders under State supervision who are most likely to engage in violent crime. The Administration has implemented a targeted approach to warrant service, prioritizing outstanding warrants for the highest risk offenders.

After inheriting a shameful 24,000 backlog of DNA samples, Governor O’Malley dedicated the necessary resources to clearing that backlog, resulting in more than 220 murderers, rapists, robbers and other offenders arrested and removed from Maryland’s streets. Governor O’Malley has championed other innovative uses of public safety technology, including the creation of the Public Safety Dashboard, enabling law enforcement to access more than 92 databases at once, now receiving up to 40,000 queries a day.

Bob Ehrlich To Discuss Sales Tax With Small Businesses Before Sales Tax Holiday

Ocean City –Bob Ehrlich will meet with small businesses in Maryland’s border counties tomorrow to discuss how the O’Malley Administration’s 20% sales tax increase impacts small businesses that are just a few miles from the border with sales-tax-free Delaware.

Ehrlich has proposed lowering Maryland’s sales tax to 5 percent from 6 percent to help the economy and lower the tax burden on families, saying “My opponent’s sales tax increase hurts small businesses, especially in border counties, since consumers can quickly drive to Delaware or other neighboring states to buy the same products for less. Our current sales taxes are regressive and hurt the poor most of all.”

Bob Ehrlich will host a roundtable discussion with merchants who know their customers can save money simply by crossing the state line. Ehrlich has held roughly three dozen roundtables with more than 250 small businesses since the election campaign began.

WHEN: Wednesday, August 4th at 10:00am
WHERE: Route 50 Diner, Francis Scott Key Resort, 12806 Ocean Gateway, West Ocean City
