More Towing Companies Add New Names, Same Owners

While I'll not get into who the companies are, Towing Companies are taking advantage of the legislation at hand and adding more company names to sort of buck the system.

While a new Board is being created to oversee the Towing Industry, one owner having several different company names cheats those businesses with 10 to 15 tow trucks operating under one name. Take Simpson's Towing as an example. They have a multitude of tow trucks, yet they run one company. Billy Bob's Towing, (as an example) has 4 trucks with 4 different names, one owner. When Billy Bob gets on the City's rotation system, they have 3 times a better chance than Simpson't to get called to any scene.

Its not fair and once again the system is broke. Hopefully this new Board can sort these simple things out.

  2. Towing companines get over yourselfs said...
Well I say if Simpsons Towing wants to maintain 10-15 Towing Lots, phone numbers, Insurances, tags, taxes ect. I say more power to them. These people in the towing busines need to stop all this crying For every way this towing board will try to regulate there is someone willing to press the rule. I have a question who is going to say what desides a "seperate/same towing" company is? For Example:

Gary Pusey/ASPS towing they claim to be separte towing companies but the same driver, drives both trucks and both trucks, and/are sitting normally in his yard? He gets paid off one paycheck...But one truck is owen by Gary and the other his sons....So is this a Multi Company????

Mills Towing/AAA towing both controled by Kenny Mills (dont fool yourselfs he calls the shots)
Although the word is that Kenny leased the truck to his drive Ken. So does this make a Multi Company???

Parsons Towing/56th Street Towing Owned by Richard Parson and the other is Wife. Has different DOT and Tel numbers but uses the same lot and Richard calls the shots.

    Last but not forgotten:

    Tommy Tindall
Tindalls/Quality/HT/Collison Towings: All owned by the same man and has ONE driver between 4 companies...Shares lots with other towing companies, does have different numbers ....So is this a Multi company....What happens when he leases the truck to another party would it then qualify for a single tow company???????

  3. I would only call Simpson's any way. I trust them. They are only doing what they have to in this dog eat dog world.

  4. The City should set up the rotation list to allow only one truck per family or company for their calls; and all the new "companies" popping up after January 2010 (or something like that) should be put on a waiting list and when a company goes out of business or retires, that slot goes to next on the list.

There are some honest long-time businesses and the competition will always be there--but don't lump these folks in with the ones trying to make a fast and unethical buck!

  5. Grants Simpsons Williams Adkins etc wont make multiple names or companies because their proud of their name. Why have 3 or 4 companies without and credability? These multiple companies using multiple names really don't exist in the public eye for towing. Their only here to be put on a police list and rip off the consumer or insurance company.

  6. anonymous 2:20, while I agree with you I must say the following. Its a numbers game and its all about business. If you're stranded and the Police call for a Towing Company, I doubt anyone cares who's called in to tow them. They just want a bad experience to end as fast as they can. This is why I strongly suggest each and every person put their favorite towing company in their cell phone and name it TOWING. You have the right to call whomever you want.

The other companies know they'll get more calls if they use multiple names and the SPD should stop this practice immediately.

  7. So Joe, How would you solve this problem?

  8. Very simple. Go back to the way the legislation was originally drafted and only allow one company per owner. If those business owners don't like it, get off the list.

  9. They should be like delaware. No rotation but sections/territory one company gets this section of town, another section another company and so on. Have a bidding system to decide who gets what territory. I think salisbury is big enough for this to work. If the tow companys dont want to bid then they just wont have a territory. All rotation lists do is cause trouble.

  10. The current charter written by the city with regards to multiple company ownership is as follows...

    5.64.040
Applicant not to be interested in other licenses.
Every applicant shall make an oath that he is not directly or indirectly financially interested in any other such license.
    (Prior code § 141-4)

How on earth individuals were allowed to start this multi-company ownership is beyond me. It clearly states that no financial interest shall be had in any other towing license. I blame the Quartermasters Office of the Salisbury Police Dept, as they are the folks charged with handling towing company issues. The man that allowed this practice to start is now retired, and his hand picked protege is just as responsible as he was. Upshur St. has 11 different towing companies housed in a half-block area. Not a single office, not a single structure in sight. Signs on fences...just a bunch of rickety fence posts holding up a flimsy fence. This is their business location? For real?
THE ONLY REASON THEY OPEN MORE COMPANIES IS FOR THE POLICE GENERATED CALL...PERIOD. They are n ot interested in even doing private calls as there is no substantial "quick buck" to be had. The City Council should grow a set of nuts and take care of the problem they let get out of hand.

  12. Members of City Council:

Get some gumption and start doing what's right for the city and legitimate towing business owners! Why give the fly-by-night start ups and multiple license holders the opportunity to violate 5.64.040--you see a broken system, right? Stop stalling and fix it!!

  18. Tommy,
You have repeatedly stated that you, in fact do, own all 4 companies. Youve said it on this site just as you have said it on the Grinch blog. You got up in front of the Council and told them and everyone in the room that you own all 4 companies. Now your wife owns it? Well we all knew that, but why have you been leading people around by the nose on this issue? Doesnt she, in fact, live in California? Thats what you tell everyone anyways....so which is it? Youve broken so many rules you cant keep all the lies straight anymore. And yeah....good luck buying anyone out.

  19. Nobody would ever sell to Tommy T. he would ruin what name and credability anyone has made for themselves, he's bad news for any industry. he would just have to use what equity he has in his home to purchase another truck... theres more to the towing business then police calls and accidents. And everyone knows 815pm was you because everyone has heard you talk the big talk like your have a small fortune and could actually afford to buy ppl out...which i doubt you do. anyone who buys their towtrucks with their home. Your rollbacks will be paid off in 28 more years!!! congrats
