I was out in Princess Anne on 13 about 10 this morning, following one of these trucks. They're CONTRACTORS, I guess SHA took their time off and will bill us to have somebody else do it. That's probably why some of them are in the ditch.
9:06 Im sure alot of the SHA employees are on vacation this time of year. I would trust someone that owns their own truck vs a state employee any day of the week. Would you trust someone driving your vehicle vs you driving it? Who do you think is going to be more careful? Someone driving their own or someone driving a State vehicle? The roads are slick. We had to go out early this am and ended up sideways on one of the back roads trying to turn on another road. Thank god we were only going 15 mph.
To all the people out there plowing snow THANK YOU.
Anon 9:06 the SHA always hires private contractors to assist in snow removal. It is far less expensive to used hired trucks than to maintain a fleet of trucks that are not needed until there is a snow emergency. Believe me, they pay good but not that good, there is no time and a half for these drivers or owners it's a flat hourly rate.
9:06 PM - With snows, private contracters are hired to work along with SHA to make roads safer to travel sooner. Would you rather taxpayers money NOT be used to hire additional help? SHA is damned if they do and damned if they don't. Sad. Everyone needs to stop complaining about how the job is done and be thanful the guys and gals are out working long hard hours for your safety. I believe sincerely that SHA and private contracters know more about clearing roads than John Q Public. But we will be reading on here for days about how poor a job the clearing of roads is being done.
7:19, amen. Disclosure: I am not employed by SHA or any plowing outfit and I'm not married to or related to anyone who is! It's blowing like crazy and unlike them, I am safe and warm in my home!
I seen one in ditch coming back from O.C. tonight. Looked like he got little too close to edge of road and ka-plunk. In the ditch he went.
