Conservatives who oppose the DREAM Act likely don’t have much to worry over it. The bill, which the White House and Democratic congressional leadership have made a top priority, looks like it’s headed down in flames during the lame-duck session.
Republicans and moderate Democrats are uniting against the bill, which sets a path to citizenship for illegal immigrant students. That represents a strong opposition as liberal Democrats mount an effort to push the bill forward this week.
The anti-Dream bill forces are particularly powerful in the Senate, given the GOP’s filibuster power.
